Can you last?
Standing on the over pass thoughts of getting clearer
This is your last, your last defeat
But you've got it all wrong (you've got it all wrong)
Because you waited too long
Your last defeat
You want me to know (that you're on your own)
You've got me all wrong I don't care if you're lost
I want you to know (that we're all alone)
Threaten me with suicide, desperate for attention
This is your night
Don't want to compromise, your dying need for attention
This is your last, your last defeat
But you've got it all wrong (you've got it all wrong)
Because you waited too long
Your last defeat
We have to move on, you can't carry on
You want me to know (that you're on your own)
You've got me all wrong I don't care if you're lost
I want you to know (that we're all alone)
Sign of relief, your over me
And ambulance is on its way
Your disbelief that makes you breathe
Will be washed away when you awake
Your last defeat
Your last defeat
We have to move on, you can't carry on
You want me to know (that you're on your own)
You've got me all wrong I don't care if you're lost
I want you to know (that we're all alone)
The lyrics of "I Win You Lose" by Home Grown bring to light an emotional topic of someone struggling with a dying need for attention, leading them to threaten suicide. The song begins with "To the point of no return, you're shattered like a mirror. Can you last? Standing on the overpass thoughts of getting clearer. This is your last, your last defeat." The person is at a tipping point and feels defeated, unsure if they can even last anymore. They're standing on an overpass, likely due to the chaos in their mind and the need for clarity. Home Grown then sings "But you've got it all wrong because you waited too long. Your last defeat. We have to move on, you can't carry on." They acknowledge that the person made a mistake by waiting too long, but it's time to move on and they can't carry on in their current state.
The song then highlights the person's dying need for attention through the lyrics "Threaten me with suicide, desperate for attention. This is your night. Don't want to compromise, your dying need for attention. This is your last, your last defeat." Even in their last moments, they're desperate for attention and refuse to compromise. The person sings that their last defeat will be when they move on, as they can't carry on in their current state.
Home Grown then sings "Sign of relief, you're over me, and ambulance is on its way. Your disbelief that makes you breathe will be washed away when you awake." It's unclear who the "me" referred to here is, but the person has realized they need help and an ambulance is on the way. Their disbelief in the situation which made them breathe will be washed away once they wake up.
Overall, "I Win You Lose" is a powerful song highlighting the struggles one faces when needing attention and feeling defeated. It's a call to move on and acknowledge that they can't carry on in that state. Home Grown brings up a topic that can be tough to talk about, but the lyrics connect with anyone who has felt hopeless and in need of attention.
