Bound to Be
Homebound Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
A troubled mind with a pressure to find a
Clear sense of direction.
Another lecture, another lesson
On what it is to live a life like this,
To watch it flash before your eyes and wish things turned out the way they should,
I've never felt this misunderstood.
That look in your eyes tells me you know that I'm right.
But if I start giving in to pressure
I'll just do the same, I'll let you down in another way.
Trapped in this hourglass, I feel the sand beneath my feet.
Act like there's nothing wrong,Wait until the stress is gone.
I'll cross that bridge when I know we've come to it.
I'm not sure but not right now,
Leave me be and let me figure this one out.
You are my voice of reason and not a force of nature,
I know you're looking out for me but I won't cave in to pressure.
The lyrics of Homebound's song "Bound to Be" explore the inner struggles and vulnerability of the singer. The opening lines depict someone who appears tired and lost, with a troubled mind and a longing for clarity and purpose in life. The reference to "watching it flash before your eyes" suggests the fleeting nature of life and the desire for things to turn out differently. However, the singer feels misunderstood and believes that they are destined to fail. The look in someone's eyes confirms this belief, which only adds to the pressure they feel.
Despite the external pressure, the singer acknowledges that giving in would only lead to more disappointment and letting others down. They feel trapped, metaphorically represented by an hourglass, with the sand slipping away beneath their feet. Yet, they choose to put on a facade of normalcy, waiting for the stress to subside before addressing their issues. The line "I'll cross that bridge when I know we've come to it" suggests a cautious approach to dealing with problems, not rushing into finding solutions until the time feels right.
The singer recognizes the person they are addressing as a voice of reason, someone who cares and looks out for their best interests. However, they also assert their determination not to succumb to external pressure, emphasizing their need to find their own path and make their own decisions.
Overall, the lyrics of "Bound to Be" capture the struggle of feeling misunderstood and the pressure to conform, while also asserting the importance of staying true to oneself and finding a personal sense of direction.
