Evergreen
Honeytree Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There's no more wishes in the well
No more dreams to sell
No time in the hourglass
There's no more lies for you to tell
Your heaven is your hell
You future dying in the past

Evergreen
Ever, ever, evergreen
Evergreen
Ah, ah, ah
Ah, ah, ah

I know I'm never going to learn
Fingers fit to burn
You can't let the fire die
Keep the flame of your desire
Always rising higher
Aim for the stars and hit the sky

Evergreen
Ever, ever, evergreen
Evergreen
Ah, ah, ah
Ah, ah, ah

There's no more wishes in the well
No more dreams to sell
No time in the hourglass
There's no more lies for you to tell
Your heaven is your hell
You future dying in the past

Evergreen
Ever, ever, evergreen
Evergreen
Ah, ah, ah
Ah, ah, ah

Evergreen
Ever, ever, evergreen
Evergreen
Ah, ah, ah
Ah, ah, ah
Ah, ah, ah
Ah, ah, ah
Ah, ah, ah
Ah, ah, ah
Ah, ah, ah (Evergreen)
Ah, ah, ah (Evergreen)
Ah, ah, ah (Evergreen)

Ah, ah, ah (Evergreen)
Ah, ah, ah (Evergreen)

Overall Meaning

The song "Evergreen" by Honeytree talks about the importance of holding onto one's dreams and desires, even when it seems like there is no hope left. The lyrics suggest that the well of wishes has run dry and there are no more dreams to sell, yet the singer urges the listener to keep the fire of their desires burning bright. The future is dying in the past, which could be interpreted as a reflection of missed opportunities and regrets, but the title of the song suggests that there is hope for regrowth and eternal life in the evergreen.

The repetition of the word "evergreen" throughout the song emphasizes this theme of endurance and perseverance. The evergreen tree is a symbol of strength and resilience, as it retains its leaves all year round and can survive harsh conditions. The singer suggests that we too can be like the evergreen, always rising higher and reaching for the stars. Even when the flame of desire threatens to burn our fingers and we feel like giving up, we must keep pushing forward.

on Treasures

My granddaughter was playing her guitar today for me. The song was entitled Treasures, only it was by Taylor Swift. The Holy Spirit gently reminded me of this song that was sung by my best friend Priscilla, Treasures by Honeytree at my wedding 40 years ago. This is such a beautiful song and as I found it upon googling it, I was so happy to hear it again. It touched my heart and I cried. Thank you Lord for Nancy's obedience to follow and sing your songs.
