Offerdans
Honningbarna Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Heltedåden kan du holde for deg sjøl
Jakter på fredsduer for folkestyrets beste
Demokratiets offerdans
Se framtid i hver dødsmaskin
men husker trinnene(utt.: trinnan)
Demokratiets offerdans
Se framtid i hver dødsmaskin
Se som de daler
Se som de flyr
Se som de daler
Se som de flyr
Se som de
Se som de
Se som de
Demokratiets offerdans
Se framtid i hver dødsmaskin
The lyrics to Honningbarna's song "Offerdans" critique the concept of democracy, specifically in relation to its role in warfare. The first few lines of the song suggest that there are few noble reasons to justify acts of violence and, consequently, the performer suggests that individuals should keep their heroic aspirations to themselves. The song then switches its focus to democracy, portraying the democratic process as a sinister "offerdans" or sacrificial dance. The song describes the pursuit of peace as a meaningless endeavor in democracies where leaders and politicians are constantly searching for justifications to engage in warfare. Even peace talks, the song suggests, may be simply a ruse to identify those who should be sacrificed in the next conflict.
The lyrics then describe the sheer disregard that politicians and others have for human life. They are seen as dancing without a care in the world, as if they are not contributing to the disintegration of countless lives. The performer encourages individuals to run for their lives rather than participate in the democratic sacrificial dance. The repeated line of "Se som de daler, Se som de flyr" adds to the desperation and urgency of their situation. The song concludes by warning individuals to consider the consequences of their actions, encouraging them to think about "Satan" (the ultimate symbol of evil in Christian mythology) before becoming complicit in the dance.
