The original lineup was notable for having three guitars and no bass player, creating a distinctive, layered sound. Kimble Rendall left in 1982 before the release of their first single, Leilani, and went on to become a noted music video director. He was effectively replaced by bassist Clyde Bramley. Radalj was not happy with Rendall's departure or Faulkner's increasing influence, and left the band himself, to be replaced by one-time Fun Things guitarist Brad Shepherd. This line-up released the band's break-through first album, Stoneage Romeos, in 1984.
In 1998, the band officially split but reformed for occasional concerts in subsequent years. A full-fledged reunion came in 2004, when they released Mach Schau and began touring again. The band received another boost when Come Anytime (from 1989's Magnum Cum Louder) was used as the theme song to the Australian TV show Thank God You're Here.

It's Too Slow
Hoodoo Gurus Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
About the stars I'm under
How they wont make up their minds
And if this aint dreaming
Then I might run screaming
To the nearest compromise
There's one thing I knoiw
It's too slow
And if I dont get there
Don't you say I told you so
(I told you so)
There's a frank admission
Under no position
To be telling you all your crimes
But if I must blame someone
For what's been left undone
Then I might find I'm first in line
Theres one thing I know
It's too slow
(It's too slow)
And don't I know
(don't I know)
If I dont get there
Don't you say I told you so
(I told you so)
It's too slow
(It's too slow)
Don't I know
(don't I Know)
If I don't get there
Don't you say I told you so
(I told you so)
I don't want to hear it
Cause I can't keep a secret
I'll let the whole world know
But at least I'm moving
Things might start improving
Or else I might learn to improvise
But if it makes some difference
I will go the distance
Even though I don't win the prize
Theres one thing I know
It's too slow
(it's too slow)
And don't I know
Don't I know
And if I don't get there
Don't say I told you so
(I told you so)
It's too slow
(It's too slow)
Don't I know
And if I dont get there
Don't you say that no
I don't want to know
No no no
But there you go!
There you go
It's too slow
It's too slow
To too sloww
Too slowww
The song It's Too Slow by Hoodoo Gurus is a reflection on the pace of life and the singer's frustration with how slow everything is moving. The opening lines suggest a sense of wonder about the stars above, but quickly lead into a sense of unease about how indecisive they are. This sense of unease is mirrored in the lyrics about running screaming to the nearest compromise, as if the singer is feeling trapped and frustrated by the slow pace of events.
The chorus provides a clear statement of the song's theme, with the repetition of "it's too slow" emphasizing the singer's frustration. The lyrics suggest that the singer is impatient to reach some kind of goal, but is stuck in a situation where things are moving too slowly. The repetition of "don't I know" in the chorus emphasizes the singer's knowledge that things are moving too slowly and the implication that they are being held back by the situation.
The verse about finding someone to blame for what is left undone is intriguing, as it suggests that the singer is frustrated that things are not moving faster, but that they don't want to take responsibility for this themselves. The verse about not being able to keep a secret, and letting the whole world know, suggests a potential impatience and lack of self-control on the singer's part. Overall, the song reflects a sense of restlessness and urgency, with the repetition of "there you go" at the end suggesting the singer is trying to push things forward.

Well I have to wonder
I'm curious and uncertain
About the stars I'm under
About the situation I'm in
How they wont make up their minds
How things are undecided
And if this aint dreaming
If this isn't just fantasy
Then I might run screaming
Then I might panic
To the nearest compromise
To a solution that isn't perfect, but works
There's one thing I knoiw
I'm sure of one thing
It's too slow
Things are moving too slowly
Don't I know
I'm fully aware of it
And if I dont get there
If I don't achieve my goal
Don't you say I told you so
Don't blame me for it
(I told you so)
There's a frank admission
I'm going to reveal a harsh truth
Under no position
To be in no position
To be telling you all your crimes
To be judging you for your wrongdoings
But if I must blame someone
But if I have to point fingers
For what's been left undone
For what hasn't been accomplished
Then I might find I'm first in line
Then I might be the first one to blame
It's too slow
Things are moving too slowly
(It's too slow)
And don't I know
I'm fully aware of it
(don't I know)
If I dont get there
If I don't achieve my goal
Don't you say I told you so
Don't blame me for it
(I told you so)
I don't want to hear it
I don't want to listen to criticism
Cause I can't keep a secret
Because I can't keep things to myself
I'll let the whole world know
I'll tell everyone
But at least I'm moving
But at least I'm making progress
Things might start improving
Things might get better
Or else I might learn to improvise
Or else I might have to come up with a new plan
But if it makes some difference
But if it has some impact
I will go the distance
I will do my best
Even though I don't win the prize
Even if I don't come out on top
It's too slow
Things are moving too slowly
(it's too slow)
And don't I know
I'm fully aware of it
Don't I know
I'm fully aware of it
And if I don't get there
If I don't achieve my goal
Don't say I told you so
Don't blame me for it
(I told you so)
I don't want to know
I don't want to hear it
No no no
Definitely not
But there you go!
But that's how it is!
There you go
That's how it is
It's too slow
Things are moving too slowly
It's too slow
Things are moving too slowly
To too sloww
Very slowly
Too slowww
Very very slowly
