The original lineup was notable for having three guitars and no bass player, creating a distinctive, layered sound. Kimble Rendall left in 1982 before the release of their first single, Leilani, and went on to become a noted music video director. He was effectively replaced by bassist Clyde Bramley. Radalj was not happy with Rendall's departure or Faulkner's increasing influence, and left the band himself, to be replaced by one-time Fun Things guitarist Brad Shepherd. This line-up released the band's break-through first album, Stoneage Romeos, in 1984.
In 1998, the band officially split but reformed for occasional concerts in subsequent years. A full-fledged reunion came in 2004, when they released Mach Schau and began touring again. The band received another boost when Come Anytime (from 1989's Magnum Cum Louder) was used as the theme song to the Australian TV show Thank God You're Here.

My Caravan
Hoodoo Gurus Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Is far from home.
I seek a path to parts unknown.
My caravan
Hides from the sun.
By moonlit night my journey's done.
Your smallest wish is my command,
Ships in the night.
Ships of the sand.
The camels in my caravan.
May Allah smile
Upon your land
And safely guide my caravan.
His smallest wish is our command.
My caravan.
I build my dreams on shifting sand
My caravan
The song "My Caravan" by Hoodoo Gurus is a poetic expression of the life journey, as well as the concept of having a nomadic lifestyle. The caravan symbolizes a vehicle towards the unknown, and the track describes the journey of someone who is wandering through life aimlessly. The caravan, in this sense, seems to offer a safe haven and a fulfilling path.
The opening line "My caravan is far from home" suggests that the caravan belongs to someone traveling far away from familiar and cozy surroundings. The line "I seek a path to parts unknown" could either mean that the person is looking for an uncharted path in their life journey or physical exploration. The line "My caravan hides from the sun" evokes an image of the caravan being a sanctuary, a place to escape the scorching rays of the sun. The line "By moonlit night my journey's done" suggests that the traveler takes advantage of the coolness of the night for exploration.
The chorus line "Your smallest wish is my command, My caravan" is quite intriguing because it connotes that the person is either the owner or the driver of the caravan. The next verse describes the caravan's animal team as "Ships of the night, Ships of sand, and the camels in my caravan," again highlighting the theme of the nomadic lifestyle. The line "May Allah smile upon your land and safely guide my caravan" suggests that the person who owns the caravan is a Muslim.
