REGARDING THE OROVILLE DAM AND LAKE OROVILLE DILEMMAS
Following the release of water from the very heavy "atmospheric river" of storms and record lake levels, the main spillway was damaged, precluding (at least for the time being) it use.
The "emergency spillway", which was not a spillway at all, but rather a large hillside, was soon wiped out. When water for the first time cascaded over the retaining wall and took out huge sections of the adjacent unstable rock structure, the heavily damaged main spillway then again had to be used to reduce the lake's level. This soon led to its near total destruction.
This disaster came so close to causing the complete failure of the dam that millions of downstream residents feared for their lives, and rightly so. The ensuing death and destruction would have been unimaginable.
I've heard it stated that the project's surveyors, geologists, and engineers "didn't know this, didn't understand that" regarding the geology of the mountains the dam was built across.
You don't even have to be a scientist or civil engineer to look at the characteristics of the rock and see that the location's geology was not stable enough to support a dam.
On top of this, corners were cut, contracts went to low bidders, funds were mismanaged, and timelines were pushed for political reasons.
It is a perfect storm, nearly destroyed by a record storm.
And it's not over, many more billions of dollars may have to be spent on it to keep the band-aids current and effective. Meanwhile, the threat ever remains.
Not man, but rather Mother Nature may well be its ultimate arbiter in the long or not so long run.

Hi,

I had a new topic for you. "DAMS WHICH WILL FAIL IF NOT DECOMMISSIONED IMMEDIATELY".

There is a dam called "Mullaperiyar" in Kerala which is in India. It's 126 years old. The life expectancy was only 50 years old, I personally think God is holding back the dam without failing.

The breaking of this dam will most probably trigger in breaking of further larger dams beneath it. Just like the Banqiao dam failure in 1975. It's almost 2900ft above mean sea level.

If it happens almost 5million people will die/disappear.

Please check about "mullaperiyar dam", you will understand that this is not a scam. Hope you will make a vedio of it and let others know about it worldwide. I also hope your vedio might help save many lives.

I'm really surprised you didn't include the Grand Teton dam break in Idaho in 1976. The 305 ft. dam wiped out complete agricultural towns and cost 11 people their lives. It had a huge impact on Yellowstone's trout and the snake river habitat. To make matters worse, logs that had been stored around the dam broke loose, rammed into a gas storage tank which exploded and sent flames along the racing water. The flood and resulting fires nearly destroyed Rexburg and Hibbard. Government claims were filed well into the 1980s totalling over $300 million. (Source: Wikipedia)

It's very spectacular to see water flowing with such magnitude

Standing next to the water jetting out like this looks incredibly dangerous. Also standing next to a flood with all that soil and mud flooding everywhere.

Near my hometown northwest of San Antonio, TX is a dam on the Medina River. It was completed in 1918 with the primary purposes of flood control and agriculture irrigation. In 1919 there was a rain event created by a dying hurricane over its watershed. It filled the damn to near capacity, saving property and countless lives. It was estimated that approximately 50"+ inches of rain fell over a 3 day. When it opened it was the largest dam West of the Mississippi. It's over 100 years old and is stronger than when it first due the continued curing of the concrete
