My baby don't go
I beg you please don't go
I beg you please don't go
When will i see you again
When will i touch you again
When will i ever see that pretty smile of yours again
No baby don't go
I beg you please don't go
I beg you please don't go
When will i huge you again
When will i kiss you again
When will i ever sit around with you again
Please baby don't go
Please baby don't go
Please don't go
Please don't go
When will i see you again
When will i touch you again
When will i ever see that pretty smile of yours again
No baby don't go
No baby don't go
I beg you please don't go
I beg you please don't go
When will i huge you again
When will i kiss you again
When will i ever sit around with you again
The lyrics of Horace Andy's song "Don't Go" express a feeling of desperation and longing for a loved one not to leave. The repetition of "My baby don't go" and "No baby don't go" emphasizes the singer's plea and the urgency of the situation. The lyrics are straightforward, listing the things the singer will miss about their lover such as their touch, smile, and time spent together. The repeated questions of "When will I see/touch/kiss/hug you again" illustrate the uncertainty and anxiety of not knowing when or if the loved one will return. Overall, the song conveys the pain and heartbreak of a relationship on the verge of ending.
Interestingly, Horace Andy's version of this song is actually a cover of a song by The Drifters, a popular American doo-wop and R&B group from the 1950s and 60s. The original was released in 1964 and was written by Carole King and Gerry Goffin. Andy's version was released in 1977 and is a reggae-style interpretation that adds a new dimension to the emotional depth of the song.
