NIGHTRIDER
Horisont Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's late at night
I get that feeling running through my veins
You know it drives me insane
In the car, slam the door, turn the key
And I'll be free on that highway tonight
Highway bound, I'm so alive
I'm shifting into overdrive
Nightrider, nightrider
Autobahn, Route 61
I'll drive this road into the sun
Nightrider, nightrider
Well, my machine is tired and cool
I don't need to go to school
I'll put the hammer down and I'll leave this town
I'm racing time, the freeway just seems to unwind
In front of me and there's no return
My wheels of love
Fit me like a racing glove
Nightrider, nightrider
Don't touch the brake, don't cross the line
Don't make mistakes 'cause you know that I'm
Nightrider, nightrider, nightrider, nightrider
Here I come
The engine roars, strapped and tied
I'm locked inside my doors
On a midnight run
But who knows when danger lies around
The bend for me with the morning sun
Pass her by
Faster than the speed of light
Nightrider, nightrider
You better run
Look out now 'cause here I come
Nightrider, nightrider

Nightrider, nightrider
Nightrider, nightrider, nightrider, nightrider

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Horisont's song "Nightrider" depict a rebellious spirit of a person who finds escape and freedom through driving late at night. The song portrays the excitement and thrill of driving fast on open roads and being able to leave behind the mundane reality of life. The singer's voice is filled with a sense of passion and egotism as he sings about shifting into overdrive, racing time on the freeway and speeding past everything and everyone. The lyrics convey a sense of danger and risk as the singer warns others not to cross him because he knows how to take control and achieve his desires. In essence, the song is about a person's desire to be liberated from the confines of everyday life and experience the rush of adrenaline through driving.

Interestingly, the lyrics of "Nightrider" are not only about the thrill of driving but also a reflection of Horisont's own life experience. The lead singer of the band, Axel Söderberg, revealed in an interview that the song was inspired by his own love for cars and the rebellious attitude he felt while growing up. The song's lyrics are therefore a combination of Söderberg's own experiences with his emotions and a desire to let loose.

Moreover, the song's title and some of its lyrics are reminiscent of the 1982 action movie "Nightrider" that was a spinoff from the popular TV series "Knight Rider." The movie featured a rogue driver seeking revenge against a police officer, and the song's lyrics seem to embody the rebellious spirit of the film's protagonist.

Tack, tack Horisont.
