Their drummer Leigh Pengelly announced his departure in early 2008, and the band commenced their final tour with him, "The Rescue" album tour. After this tour, the band then toured for their "Sing the News" single with a replacement drummer, being unsuccessful in finding a new one. The band disappeared soon after this tour, leaving many fans to believe they had broken up in 2009. This was confirmed with the appearance of lead singer Mark Stewart's solo project 'Jonesez'.
The band resurfaced in early 2010 to complete a run of final shows. RIP.
Satellites
Horsell Common Lyrics

A new year with no direction
The cool kids are, the main attraction
I tell you one thing, I think we're perfect
I say we leave here
Not like we're needed
I said lets leave here
Not like we're needed
Just one more time
I'm yours, you're mine
As high as satellites (as high as satellites)
I'm along for the ride (watch out for the signs)
As high as satellites
Your eyes won't open in time
To save us tonight
Hands up like they're gonna protect us
Everything's quiet now
If we're lucky we won't feel a thing
Breathing in perfect formation
Satellite come around
See things more clearly now
Satellite wonderland
Make sense of it if you can
One more time
So you'll never forget eyes
Satellite come around
See things more clearly now
One more time
The lyrics to Horsell Common's song Satellites seem to describe a sense of disconnection and isolation in a big city. The first two lines state that the city has no connection and no direction, setting a desolate tone. The cool kids are the main attraction, emphasizing a feeling of being an outsider in a society that values only certain types of people. Despite this, the singer seems confident in their own sense of self, stating "I tell you one thing, I think we're perfect". However, the feeling of dissatisfaction with their surroundings is evident in the repeated urge to leave, declaring that they're not needed.
The chorus of the song introduces the simile "as high as satellites" to describe the intensity of their feelings. It appears that the high they experience is a result of some kind of reckless action or rebellion, as indicated by the warning to "watch out for the signs". The last line of the chorus is a sobering reminder that their actions have consequences, and that they may not be able to save themselves from the fallout.
The bridge of the song emphasizes a sense of powerlessness in the face of danger, as the only option is to raise their hands up as if to protect themselves. Despite this, there is a strange sense of peace in the quietness, and a collective sense of unity in the breathing in perfect formation. The last verse is a plea to the satellite, an otherworldly force that might provide some kind of clarity or sense of purpose. But the lyrics recognize that understanding may be impossible, as they urge the satellite to "make sense of it if you can".
Overall, the lyrics of Satellites convey a sense of disconnection, uncertainty, and a search for meaning in a world that sometimes feels meaningless.

Briliant EP. In fact one of my favourite EPs. Such a pity they broke up. My favourite Aussie band from that time. Brilliant live too.
