Hot Chip Lyrics

I said baby, I can't give you that
I'm a simple man
My baby said she wanted adventure
I said baby, the outside was not safe
We should sit down
My baby said she wanted some action
I'm a simple man
My baby said she wanted adventure
I said baby, the outside was not safe
We should sit down
I read all the time
About how they fly
Like children my, my
It's filled with play time
But why must I go
Out into the cold
My life is inside
Where safe we can hide
I read all the time
About how they fly
Like children my, my
It's filled with play time
But why must I go
Out into the cold
My life is inside
Where safe we can hide
My baby said she wanted some action
I said baby, I can't give you that
I'm a simple man
My baby said she wanted adventure
I said baby, the outside was not safe
We should sit down
My baby said she wanted some action
I said baby, I can't give you that
I'm a simple man
My baby said she wanted adventure
I said baby, the outside was not safe
We should sit down
The Hot Chip song "Babies" explores the tension between a desire for adventure and a longing for safety and security. The singer's partner wants to "fly" and experience new things, but the singer feels more comfortable in their familiar world. They are a "simple man" who finds solace in staying at home and reading, while their partner wants action and excitement. The repeated refrain of "My baby said she wanted some action / I said baby, I can't give you that / I'm a simple man" emphasizes the contrast between the two perspectives.
The line "Where safe we can hide" suggests that the singer sees their home as a place of refuge from the dangers of the outside world. This could be interpreted as a commentary on the anxieties and uncertainty of modern life, where it can sometimes feel like there are threats lurking around every corner. The song presents a sympathetic view of both perspectives, acknowledging the appeal of both adventure and safety.
Overall, "Babies" is a thoughtful and contemplative song that touches on universal themes of risk, security, and the tension between them. It encourages listeners to reflect on their own desires and fears, and to appreciate the value of both adventure and the comforting familiarity of home.

Begging like a hungry child
Waiting like an angry ghost
Fiendish for you
Dreaming never felt so bad
Loving never felt so wrong before
Wanting what you cannot have
Living with a sadness you cannot endure
Been trying hard to pull you back
All my life, it's momentary
A moment like a heart attack
Stopped my life, it's momentary
If only I could take a pill
But then I would dream of you
Bring nightmares too
Dreaming never felt so bad
Loving never felt so wrong before
Wanting what you cannot have
Living with a sadness you cannot endure
Been trying hard to pull you back
All my life, it's momentary
A moment like a heart attack
Stopped my life, it's momentary
Been trying hard to pull you back
All my life, it's momentary
A moment like a heart attack
Stopped my life, it's momentary
When I sing, I sing for you
All I make, I make for you
The night long, I work for you
'Til the sun comes streaming through
When I sing, I sing for you
All I make, I make for you
The night long, I work for you
'Til the sun comes streaming through
A moment like a heart attack
Been trying hard to pull you back
All my life, it's momentary
A moment like a heart attack
Stopped my life, it's momentary
Been trying hard to pull you back
All my life, it's momentary
A moment like a heart attack
Stopped my life, it's momentary
When I sing, I sing for you
All I make, I make for you
The night long, I work for you
'Til the sun comes streaming through.

Gotta admit that the "jar of vinegar" burn was a pretty good comeback..
@tbhv
I honestly think despite their popularity hot chip is actually still underrated
@autohmae

@keg7790
Speaking from the United States, I think they should be MORE popular (here).ย Agreed they are criminally under rated still.
@posteador
Their videos are way better than their music
@jadakiss98682
@posteador Nah. If you listen to I Feel Better without the video, it's much better. Same goes for this song. The videos are amazing but they take away from the fine details of the songs.
@bensadventuresonearth6126
"Does that make you a jar of vinegar?" XD
