Feal Like Crab
Hot Mulligan Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Where'd you get your books and did they
Teach you anything maybe you could show to me
Because it feels like it's been years
Since I've been useful, never earned my pedigree

I don't think I can fake it
I can admit you ought
To stay in college, at least you'll know something
I'm a dead friend, let me rot in my coffin now
The only difference, I'd probably prefer it

Now I'll die old and faceless
Hiding deep in some depressing
Little hovel in the background of the show
You're watching
If you see me just ignore it 'cause there's nothing I could offer anyway

And it occurred that maybe my worth is much less than we thought
I let it set in, I'll be forgotten
I can't obscure the fact that I've learned hardly anything at all
An application, another language

And I can't work 9 to 5's if I'm sleeping past noon
Try to catch morning light with alarms left unused
How bad could it hurt
To sell my blood 'till I'm withered and bruised

Now I'll die old and faceless
Hiding deep in some depressing
Little hovel in the background of the show
You're watching
If you see me just ignore it cuz there's nothing I could offer anyway

Yo!
Yo!

Now I'll die old and faceless
Hiding deep in some depressing
Little hovel in the background of the show
You're watching
If you see me just ignore it cuz there's nothing I could offer anyway

Yo!

Overall Meaning

The song "Feel Like Crab" by Hot Mulligan is a raw and honest depiction of a person's struggle with feeling useless and unaccomplished in life. The lines "Where'd you get your books and did they teach you anything maybe you could show me? / Because it feels like it's been years since I've been useful, never earned my pedigree" express the singer's desire to learn and improve, but also their sense of inadequacy and worthlessness.

The chorus "Now I'll die old and faceless / Hiding deep in some depressing / Little hovel in the background of the show you're watching / If you see me just ignore it 'cause there's nothing I could offer anyway" paints a bleak picture of the singer's future, where they feel destined to be forgotten and irrelevant. The mention of selling their blood suggests extreme measures taken out of desperation to feel some sense of purpose.

Overall, the song captures the feeling of being lost and directionless in life, and the struggles of coming to terms with one's shortcomings and limitations.

As a guy in my early 30s, I experienced the first wave of emo based punk/pop/rock and I can honestly say, these dudes have nailed a modern emo sound that really hits home whilst simultaneously paying homage to those that popularized the genre.

Fucking dope af

I just discovered bckyrd yesterday, and its not been on repeat this entire time, but definitely 80%. Now I am listening to the rest of that album....seems kinda hit and miss but I was rebuilding my old school emo playlist and it fucking fits right in. I love them <3

i still regularly blast 00's emo on my way home from work. i only go in once a week but it's a long ass commute and there's nothing like singing along to my old favorite songs to make the time fly. happened to look for some pop punk emo playlist on spotify and found this band. immediately starred it to save it for later
