HWM recorded an album with their good friends and mentors Leatherface for the first volume of the BYO split series. They also recorded with Alkaline Trio for a split LP on Jade Tree shortly thereafter.
In 2001, Hot Water Music signed with Epitaph Records and released the record A Flight and A Crash, and went on to release two more records with Epitaph, Caution and The New What Next.
In addition to their full length albums and the two aforementioned split releases, Hot Water Music have also released 5 other EPs and split albums: Push for Coin (1995 - demo tape), Eating the Filler (1995- Toybox Records), Hot Water Music vs. Discount (New American Dreams) and Colors, Words, and Dreams (2002 - split with The Casket Lottery, Second Nature Recordings).
In 2005 the band took a hiatus as vocalist Chuck Ragan wanted to spend more time with his family. Soon after, the rest of the band formed The Draft, and released their debut record, In A Million Pieces, September 12, 2006 on Epitaph Records, along with various 7" vinyl records on No Idea. Ragan has opted for a solo-acoustic act with No Idea records, releasing a monthly vinyl to prelude a full studio album, as well as two live discs. Hot Water Music Lyrics

What's willing and obscene, what grows inside of...
I never realized the glow, the glow that we all know,
The glow inside of me.
I know what's on my mind,
Breath, see, feel what we find and it's all good.
I'm not half as bad as everyone might say.
Treat me all the same as you did yesterday.
I'm not half as scared, I'm on my last leg.
I'm true. I am true.
The lyrics to Hot Water Music's song Powder convey themes of self-awareness, growth, and acceptance. The opening lines express the realization of understanding oneself and the parts of oneself that can be both virtuous and unsavory. The "glow" that is mentioned refers to a sense of enlightenment or self-discovery. The following verse further emphasizes this notion by encouraging the listener to focus on their senses and feelings, acknowledging that they are all worth exploring and accepting as a part of oneself.
The chorus of the song expresses a shift in the singer's confidence and fearlessness in stating their truth. They are no longer afraid of being judged or misunderstood, and instead embrace their authenticity. The line "Take me now in vein 'cause I'm not the same" could be interpreted as a willingness to be vulnerable and exposed because the singer is no longer afraid of not measuring up to the expectations of others. The repeated phrase "I'm true" reinforces this message of self-acceptance and conviction.
Overall, the song's lyrics encourage a sense of growth and introspection, recognizing the importance of embracing both the positive and negative aspects of oneself in finding the "glow" and personal truth.
