Hotel Books began in 2010. After the release of "Call Me Human," many demos were released online, which ultimately became "Everything We Could Have Done Differently." After extensive touring in the US and overseas, the band signed to InVogue Records, under which they released a double-packaged EP, "I'm Almost Happy Here, But I Never Feel At Home" as well as two full band records, "Run Wild, Young Beauty," and "Run Wild, Stay Alive," along with two albums in the "Equivalency" series and an experimental LP "I'll Leave the Light on Just in Case."
The band's InVogue Records debut, "I'm Almost Happy Here, But I Never Feel at Home" was released July 1, 2014, via InVogue Records. The album received mostly positive reviews, as well as earned the band their first Billboard chartings; No. 9 on Alternative New Artists and No. 20 on Heatseekers, for the album's debut week. Their next effort, "Run Wild, Young Beauty," was released on April 7, 2015, and spent three total weeks on the Billboard charts.
In 2016, Hotel Books released their second long-player "Run Wild, Stay Alive" to negative and mixed reviews. The album focused more on the rock elements and traditional song structure.
In October of 2017, Hotel Books released "Equivalency" via InVogue Records to critical acclaim.
Hotel Books has toured the United States, Europe, Asia, and Australia, playing with a variety of notable acts, including Defeater, Counterparts, and I Prevail.

To be broke and famous
With the broken and nameless
To take all their time
She likes her rock and roll to be loud and honest
Proud and androgynous, not searching for context
She likes her rock and roll to teach her about herself
She rock and rolled her way out of Poughkeepsie
She left her family so she could be right next to me
Well, do what you gotta do, but
I will tell the truth and
I didn't ask you to
You might be something I cannot lose
We sound nothing like we did at the start
We made some rock and gave up on art
I hope you're happy, Mom
I wrote a happy song
Now let's hope that the world holds their remarks
I wanna buy a house without feeling doubt
I wanna change the world, but also change myself
I hope you're happy, Mom
I wrote a happy song
Here's the voice of an aspiring sellout
Darling, you got your first taste of fame
I hope it tastes as good as you thought
'Cause once you play the game, nothing's the same
And that fame might be all that she got
'Cause I'd rather live with a broken heart than no heart at all
Left with questions and remarks that narrate the fall
We'll paint a picture and cover it in gray
And peel away an inch every time we feel our love stray
So by the end we could look at the beautiful art
That you and I made, if we don't already fade
We sound nothing like we did at the start
We made some rock and gave up on art
I hope you're happy, Mom
I wrote a happy song
Now let's hope that the world holds their remarks
I wanna buy a house without feeling doubt
I wanna change the world, but also change myself
I hope you're happy, Mom
I wrote a happy song
Here's the voice of an aspiring sellout
Yet it's someday you don't still love me
Just know that I will miss you
If it's not too much to ask
Maybe someday you'll sit back
And you'll find some time you miss me, too
'Cause I can get it wrong
Sometimes I know I'm right
I don't wanna sing another sad song
Just wanna celebrate life
We sound nothing like we did at the start
We made some rock and gave up on art
I hope you're happy, Mom
I wrote a happy song
Now let's hope that the world holds their remarks
I hope you're happy, Mom
I wrote a happy song
Here's the voice of an aspiring sellout
Hotel Books' song "Celebration" is a complex exploration of what the singer (presumably the lead singer in the band) sees as the contradictions inherent in their chosen career as a musician. The first verse describes the idealized version of rock and roll that the singer's partner prefers: "broke and famous/with the broken and nameless/ to take all their time." But the singer is wary of falling into the trap of idealizing the rock and roll lifestyle without acknowledging the toll it can take on a person's mental health: "She likes her rock and roll to teach her about herself/And how to [?] not depleting your mental health."
The rest of the song circles around the tension between wanting to make it big and change the world through music, and the fear that success will come at the cost of authenticity and emotional depth. The chorus repeats the lines "We sound nothing like we did at the start/We made some rock and gave up on art/I hope you're happy, Mom/I wrote a happy song." The singer seems to be grappling with the idea that their music has changed from something deep and meaningful to something more commercially viable (hence the reference to becoming an "aspiring sellout"). They hope that their mother, who may have had different expectations for their creative output, will approve of this new direction.
The final verse is particularly poignant, as the singer acknowledges that relationships can suffer under the pressure of fame and touring. They hope that even if the relationship ends badly, their former partner will be able to look back on the good times and remember them fondly: "If it's not too much to ask/Maybe someday you'll sit back/And you'll find some time you miss me, too/'Cause I can get it wrong/Sometimes I know I'm right/I don't wanna sing another sad song/Just wanna celebrate life." Ultimately, "Celebration" captures the complicated, messy reality of being a musician trying to balance success and authenticity.

I love how the entire chorus is satire. From the lyrics to the poppy chord progression, which makes it genius. The fact that he's singing a happy song to please certain people is itself sad haha. I love Hotel Books!

After weeks of just sadness about my life and a girl I decided I will be moving out soon of my parents place. I'm 19 don't know where i'm going but i'm moving out with friends in August to grow as a person, take on life, and ultimately have everlasting experiences. I love this song as of recently because i'm tired of feeling sad and everything about it motivates and makes me happy every time as of recently. Thank you, I love you guys.
