Taylor was best known for his raw vocal style and searing slide guitar, using a cheap Teisco guitar to great advantage.

Named after President Theodore Roosevelt, Mississippi-native Taylor took up the guitar when he was 20 years old. He made a few appearances on Sonny Boy Williamson's fabled KFFA King Biscuit Time radio broadcasts out of Helena, AR, before coming to Chicago in 1942. It was another 15 years before Taylor made blues his full-time vocation, though. Taylor was a favorite on the South and West sides during the late 50s and early 60s. It's generally accepted that Freddie King copped a good portion of his classic "Hide Away" from an instrumental he heard Taylor cranking out on the bandstand.

Taylor's relentlessly raucous band, the HouseRockers, consisted of only two men, though their combined racket sounded like quite a few more. Second guitarist Brewer Phillips, who often supplied buzzing pseudo-bass lines on his guitar, had developed such an empathy with Taylor that their guitars intertwined with ESP-like force, while drummer Ted Harvey kept everything moving along at a brisk pace.

Hound Dog Taylor began playing guitar when he was 20 and became a full-time musician around 1957. He wasn’t well known outside of the Chicago area until his debut album, Hound Dog Taylor and the HouseRockers, with Alligator Records in 1971. The LP contained the typically rowdy Give Me Back My Wig while Taylor's first Alligator encore in 1973, Natural Boogie, boasted the hypnotic Sadie and a stomping Roll Your Moneymaker.

His fourth Alligator album, Beware of the Dog, was recorded live in 1974 but only released after his death. Hound Dog Taylor died of cancer in 1975 and was buried in the Restvale Cemetery in Alsip, Illinois. He was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 1984.

I was there back pre 9/11. A friend and I stood next to one and took our pics with him. He was actually very cool and whispered (jokingly) to stand on the other side of him. He said that was his good side. We laughed and complied. Never thought about getting in his personal space or touching him.

Having served in the British Army for a number of years; I can only say that the people who deliberately try to antagonise our servicemen should be prepared for whatever comes their way. Personally I don't feel that the general public should be allowed this close to Royal Guards as the risk of an incident or serious terrorist attack is too great. Some people in these videos and generally in life are basically arseholes so we need to do everything to stop the risk to our brave men and women of our armed services.

While in the USAF stationed in England in 1975/6 my wife a I visited Buckingham palace...while there my wife tried teasing the queens guardsman, so I admonished her and told her that he was a professional soldier and deserved respect....that guard didn't even blink an eye being shown respect nor disrespect...I was so impressed!

My grandfather was around 6 foot tall. A formidable man. When he enlisted for WW1, he joined the Grenadier Guards and was a drill sergeant. I think he figured there may be some protection in being a Royal Guard. It may well have worked too as thank God, he survived after being dragged out of the mud of the Somme with two bullets in his chest. He went on to be the best grandad ever. One thing is for sure, I felt so safe with him, no-one crossed my grandad and he was scared of no-one too.

These guards are there for the purpose of guarding the royal family. They should be respected and distance from them should be kept. They are very highly trained military type men, and are not in place to play games. Stay at least 25 feet from them, and keep out of their way when they have to move.

I have been told it is possible to make an appointment with someone, if the person has the time, who represents these guards if you would want any information about them. The guards when on duty are not allowed to talk or interact with anyone or anything that is outside of their job.

Don't allow yourself to be fooled by the ceremonial uniform. The Queen's Guards are carefully selected and quite accomplished, well trained and capable combat soldiers. They know vey well the difference between life and death decisions and disrespect. If you push too far, they would hurt more than your feelings. Best to be respectful and honorable or dont go.

While living there I met and married one of the Royal Guards ( Coldstream Guards ) and I always remember being told that the American's were the worse people to deal with. What makes them not scary is their devotion to their work. Any civilian working was ever mocked or shown the level of disrespect some of these guards face they would not be so stoic. The uniform might be old and ceremonial but remember they guard royalty meaning they are not rank and file soldiers, these guys are GOOD. Especially considering the defense forces of the royal court, who are specially trained and have to fulfill their responsibilities in the kingdom! What I like about this programme is that you are showing valuable information to the ignorant public who do not show any respect to the officers in uniform. Those guards are on duty. They have strict rules to follow. We must never disturb them as if they are toys in a toy shop. Thank you for pointing out the important rules.
