The Steward of Gondor
Howard Shore Lyrics

Home is behind
The world ahead
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadow
To the edge of night
Until the stars are all alight

Mist and shadow
Cloud and shape
All shall fade
All shall fade

- You wish now that our places had been exchanged... that I had died and Boromir had lived.
- Yes... I wish that.
- Since you were robbed of Boromir, I will do what I can in his stead. If I should return, think better of me, father...

In my opinion, the "Edge of Night" (Pippin's song) scene is a piece of visual poetry. Denethor sits in luxury, eating his chicken, as Pippin sings a sad and ominous melody. Faramir and the Men of Gondor charge towards Osgiliath on a suicide run: Faramir is aware that his father Denethor is mad, yet he still bravely leads his soldiers, sounding the battle cry. The Orc archers draw their bowstrings as Denethor continues to eat messily. Gothmog gives the order, and the archers release. A mix of tomato juice, cherry juice, and wine, resembling blood, dribbles down Denethor's chin as he chomps. This is symbolic of how from Denethor's mouth dripped murder, sending his own son on a fool's errand basically in an effort to indirectly kill him and regain Gondorian pride. Just a little fun perspective from one of my favorite movies! :)

One of those grand, calming pieces of music. Good to calm down to, especially if you find the voice of Pippin conforting

1:22 to 3:53 makes me cry every time. The music and Billy Boyd's singing is just beautiful I get tears all the time.

This is where we are now. World gone mad, abandonment of reason and thought. Vilification of the Wise "Beating down of the Wise and great Art beaten down). Terrible spiral into madness and utter domination ending in at best being completely controlled.
How I long for hope, for the charge of the Rohirrim....

Out of all the amazing pieces of music Howard Shore made for this trilogy, this one might be my favorite in the series along with Breaking of the Fellowship.
