very peculiar isn't it; from the first time my buddy (an audiophile) came home from one of the famous so cal record stores with a copy of one of the two RJ records it moved me like nothing else ever had. in all my life (i was 17 at the time!) i hadn't really moved beyond an intellectual appreciation of an art form. blues captured something in me that was very very real. i LOVE music, in the past twenty years my listening hours are devoted to mostly to mid to late 20th century composers - from Schoenberg to Webern to Elliott Carter and a few others. To this day i can lean into the Blues Masters like I'm studying scripture. I will confess that my tastes definitely run toward the "d**k in the dirt" style - never really dug the Chicago Blues and certainly not the more poppy blues. Even my cherished rock bands I always listened more to those with an obvious blues soul - Zeppelin, Stones, White Stripes, Velvet Underground, Joy Division, - Little Red Rooster ranks up there with Whole Lotta Love, Jumpin Jack Flash for iconic intor riff.

I thank you too, cojwat, for taking time to make this available. I-m a lover of blues, and Howling Wolf certainly deserves all recognition as one of the greatest bluesmen! No wonder why the British musicians of the 60s and 70s loved him! Cheers! I want to buy his records, and I hope the owners of the rights can see that as a good promotion of this artist. Doesn't matter. If you can locate the place in Africa where they play the blues, I'll grant you that, but I don't believe it exists, therfore, the blues is considered American. All the British rockers of the 60's called it American blues. That's what later transformed into good ole Rock 'n Roll.

+DirtyHarry G Blues derived from a coming together of Christian Gospel, Creole, Slave songs and other influences. Blues would not and did not arise in Africa because non of the cultural and musical influences were present in that continent or culture. Blues is a purely american genre, because its solely a product of 18th and 19th century american cultural influences.

So much hate? Why? If it were not for many of the young artists abroad who embraced the Blues in the 50's & 60's, the world would have no clue about American Blues. THe US was a country segregated by racism and hatred and I would bet that all the negative posts I read here are American. Shame on you. Thank God that music transcends hatred, bigotry, racism, etc and that musicians see the light and are able to come together way before the rest of us can ever fathom to.
