Hozier was born in Bray, County Wicklow, Ireland. His mother is the visual artist Raine Hozier-Byrne (who also designed his latest album cover). He began a degree in music at Trinity College, Dublin, but dropped out midway through his first year in order to record demos for Universal Music. While at Trinity, he became involved with the Trinity Orchestra. He was a member of Anúna from 2008 to 2012, and appears as a soloist on their 2012 release "Illumination" singing "La Chanson de Mardi Gras". He toured and sang with the group internationally including performances in Norway and the Netherlands.
In 2013, Hozier released the EP "Take Me to Church EP" (also containing "Like Real People Do", "Angel of Small Death and The Codeine Scene" and a live version of "Cherry Wine"), with the title track becoming his breakthrough single after it went viral on YouTube. It reached number one on the Irish iTunes singles chart and number two in the official chart on 25 October 2013.
Hozier followed up Take Me to Church with the new EP "From Eden EP" (also containing "Work Song", "Arsonist's Lullabye" and a live version of "To Be Alone"), and a number of festival tour dates and television appearances in the United States. Hozier released his self-titled album, "Hozier" on 19 September 2014. It had five singles including "Take Me to Church", "Work Song", and "From Eden", which were hits on his earlier EPs. On December 2014, it was announced that "Take Me to Church" was nominated at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards for Song of the Year in 2015.
In September 2018, he released an EP titled Nina Cried Power and featured the title track as a single, reaching number one on the Billboard Adult Alternative Songs chart. He released his second album, Wasteland, Baby! in March 2019, which debuted atop the Irish Albums Chart and the Billboard 200, and has since been certified gold in the U.S.
Someone New

You knew who I was with every step that I ran to you
Only blue or black days
Electing strange perfections in any stranger I choose
Would things be easier if there was a right way?
Honey, there is no right way
Every day with someone new
I fall in love just a little, oh, a little bit
Every day with someone new
I fall in love just a little, oh, a little bit
Every day with someone new
I fall in love just a little, oh, a little bit
Every day with someone new
There's an art to life's distraction
To somehow escape the burning wait
The art of scraping through
Some like to imagine
The dark caress of someone else, I guess any thrill will do
Would things be easier if there was a right way?
Honey, there is no right way
And so I fall in love just a little, oh, a little bit
Every day with someone new
I fall in love just a little, oh, a little bit
Every day with someone new
I fall in love just a little, oh, a little bit
Every day with someone new
I fall in love just a little, oh, a little bit
Every day with someone new
I wake at the first cringe of morning
And my heart's already sinned
How pure, how sweet a love, Aretha
That you would pray for him
'Cause God knows I fall in love just a little, oh, a little bit
Every day with someone new
I fall in love just a little, oh, a little bit
Every day with someone new
I fall in love just a little, oh, a little bit
Every day with someone new
I fall in love just a little, oh, a little bit
Every day with someone new
I fall in love just a little, oh, a little bit
Every day with someone new
I fall in love just a little, oh, a little bit
Every day
Love with every stranger, the stranger the better
Love with every stranger, the stranger the better
Love with every stranger, the stranger the better
Love with every stranger, the stranger the better
I fall in love just a little, oh, a little bit
Every day with someone new
I fall in love just a little, oh, a little bit
Every day with someone new
I fall in love just a little, oh, a little bit
Every day with someone new
I fall in love just a little, oh, a little bit
Every day with someone new
The lyrics of Hozier's "Someone New" revolve around the idea of constantly falling in love with someone new as a means of distraction from the pains of life. The opening lines "Go and take this the wrong way, you knew who I was with every step that I ran to you" suggest that the singer is aware of a certain level of difficulty that exists in love, but seeks to fall in love with someone new every day to escape any feelings of melancholy. The second verse highlights the singer's use of art to escape the wait for love to come along. While some try to find another's embrace, the singer falls in love with every stranger they come across.
The chorus "Every day with someone new, I fall in love just a little, oh, a little bit" emphasizes the singer's frequency of falling in love and the relative ease with which they do so. The bridge "I wake at the first cringe of morning, and my heart's already sinned" suggests that the singer wakes up feeling guilty about falling in love with someone new. However, the mention of Aretha Franklin's prayer for the singer's love interest implies that the singer recognizes the weight of love and desires it to be pure and genuine.
Overall, the song speaks to the beauty and tragedy of love, and the singer's struggle to find a genuine connection amidst the constant distractions and disappointments of life.

I wonder if he falls in love…just a little bit more….each day….with someone? The lyrics lead me to believe this might be what is hinted at, but he never actually comes out and says that exact thing….
