Help Wanted
Hudson Brothers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Blue lonely nights are all I seem to remember about her
Nobody told me about her
I deserve the right to put it all behind me and live me life
I'm gonna live it without her
It's easier said than done
I need someone sooner or later
I spend every night at home
So I put an add in the paper

CHORUS
Help Wanted
Members don't see this message
Its personal, won't you please help me
I got to shake this aching feeling
Or I could spend the rest of my life healing
Help Wanted
It's personal, won't you please help me
I can't do it all alone
so won't you call the listed phone below
And talk to me (talk to me)

I know some cold hearted people
If they knew, I'm sure they'd laugh at me
But I don't care much about it
For somebody new, who's not afraid to take a chance with me
Or we could take it or leave it
I don't care who you are, you'll need someone sooner or later
Then I've been cold before, but I think I'll change for the better

CHORUS

When I think of all the lonely people looking for someone
When I think of all the days and nights I thought I was the only one

REPEAT CHORUS AND FADE

Overall Meaning

The Hudson Brothers' song "Help Wanted" is about a man who is trying to move on from a past relationship. He is haunted by the blue lonely nights that he spent with his former partner but feels that he deserves the right to put it behind him and move on with his life. However, he acknowledges that it is easier said than done and that he needs someone sooner or later to help him through this difficult time. He spends every night at home, but he wants to break free from this cycle and find someone new. As a result, he puts an ad in the paper, looking for help.

The chorus of the song highlights his request for assistance as he searches for a new partner. He asks for help from anyone who can give it to him, emphasizing that it is personal and he can't do it all alone. He is desperate to shake the aching feeling he has but also acknowledges that he could spend the rest of his life healing if he doesn't find someone soon. The second verse of the song reinforces this message, as he talks about how he doesn't care who you are; sooner or later, everyone needs someone.

Overall, "Help Wanted" is a heartfelt plea for help from a man who is trying to move on from a past relationship but needs assistance to do so. It speaks to the universal desire for companionship and the difficulties of healing after a breakup.

@cbfall --- Thanks for listening. They recorded alot more that was never played on the radio. 'S a pity. Hope you can come listen to more of the Hudson Brothers on the radio station!

@RecordWarped As a teen in the mid-70's, I absolutely loved watching the "Razzle Dazzle Show" on Saturday mornings. Plus, their albums were great as well. Thanks for the comment!

@Jontor11 -- Thanks for the comment! This SHOULD have been a bigger hit since they were big at the time. With zany skits, comedy, singing, their own show - they were on a roll in the mid 70's.

this song kicked ass on the radio! I played it on 1260AM WGWR in Asheboro, NC back in 1976...it was part of our playlist and I just loved it! I remember cranking it up in the studio and jammin on it! glad to see this on YouTube!

CB Fall

Cool! I heard of this great group a couple of weeks ago thanks to a YouTube friend of mine!! Awesome song!!

This SHOULD have been a Top 10 hit. Good melody, great arrangement.

FORGOTTEN OLDIES-NON-SUPER HITS

Totally agree Mike. I know you were very high on it, when it was out, that I had read somewhere.Like your work on WAVZ, WKCI, and for the longest time, SPORTS RADIO WFAN. Stay safe.

I love this song. Great stuff, and it stands the test of time. Why oh why wasn't this a bigger hit? And I don't think many people at all ever heard of Hudson Brothers here in Europe.

@sounds73 Thank for your comment! I've always like the production of the record which separates the instruments very well. Then again, Lambert and Potter produced many hits in the 70's and won several grammys for their work.

Count me in as another person who has all of the Hudson Brothers albums!! I was also a teen in the mid-70's and got hooked on them the moment I saw them on the show they did during the summer of 1974. They are still one of my all-time favorite bands! Thanks for posting this video.
