From a first single in 1979, the group successfully combined a pop rock and power pop (and sometimes, a blues rock) influenced backing with harmony side-vocals and Lewis' strident voice, and the band had numerous hit songs during the 1980s and early 1990s. These include "The Power of Love" and "Back in Time" (both of which were featured in the film "Back to the Future"), "I Want a New Drug", "Doin' It All (For My Baby)", "Do You Believe in Love?" "Hip to Be Square", "Stuck With You", and "Jacob's Ladder". Huey Lewis shared three Grammy awards, an American Music Award, and a People's Choice Award along with several artists for his role singing the 1985 charity song "We Are the World" as well.

Couple Day's Off
Huey Lewis & The News Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But eleven out of twelve is bound to hurt
The pay's pretty good and the benefits are fine
But I got a little girl and I want to make her mine
Don't mind telling you i get a little mad
To get a bit ahead takes all the time I have
Don't misunderstand me
All i want is a couple days off
Can't wait for the weekend
Ah baby just can't wait no
I don't need another high song to sing
I don't need a shiny new diamond ring
I don't need to meet nobody else
I just need a little time for myself
'cause I'm only human, I'm no machine
I need a little loving only you know what I mean
Don't misunderstand me
I'm not getting soft
All i want is a couple days off
Let me catch my breath
Thank god for the weekend
Back to the old grind
I don't need another long coffee break
I've had as much coffee as a man can take
I need to change my disposition
Change my point of view
I need time to figure out what i want to do
Believe me when i tell you it gets a little rough
We work a little harder but it never is enough
I'm not afraid to say
I'm a total loss
All i want is a couple days off
Can't wait for the weekend
The Huey Lewis and The News song, "Couple Days Off," is an anthem for the working class. The first verse starts with Huey saying that he likes his job and doesn't mind the work but working 11 out of 12 days is bound to hurt. He also mentions that even though the pay is good and the benefits are fine, he has a little girl and he wants to devote more time to her. The second verse talks about how getting ahead takes all the time he has and how he would like to take a few days off to spend with his loved ones. Huey emphasizes that he is not getting soft despite wanting some time off from work. In the chorus, he can't wait for the weekend, as it is his only time to relax and recharge.
In the third verse, Huey talks about how he doesn't need anyone or anything else, but himself. He just needs a little time to reflect and think about what he truly wants. He is human and not a machine, and he needs some time for himself. In the last verse, he talks about how working is rough and how even though they work harder, it is never enough. He isn't afraid to admit that he is a total loss and all he wants is a couple of days off.
The song perfectly captures the feelings of someone who is overworked and underappreciated. It resonates with people who feel like they are working too much and not spending enough time with their loved ones. "Couple Days Off" encourages people to pause and take some time off for themselves.

Probably not but still reached number 11. The early 90s was a horrible time for bands like this

wasn't a big fan of this song until I saw them perform it on TBS Super Bowl Party. They rocked it and got a polite golf clap from those in attendance. Needless to say, I really like this song now.
