From a first single in 1979, the group successfully combined a pop rock and power pop (and sometimes, a blues rock) influenced backing with harmony side-vocals and Lewis' strident voice, and the band had numerous hit songs during the 1980s and early 1990s. These include "The Power of Love" and "Back in Time" (both of which were featured in the film "Back to the Future"), "I Want a New Drug", "Doin' It All (For My Baby)", "Do You Believe in Love?" "Hip to Be Square", "Stuck With You", and "Jacob's Ladder". Huey Lewis shared three Grammy awards, an American Music Award, and a People's Choice Award along with several artists for his role singing the 1985 charity song "We Are the World" as well.

Couple Days Off
Huey Lewis & The News Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But eleven out of twelve is bound to hurt
The pay's pretty good and the benefits are fine
But I got a little girl and I want to make her mine
Don't mind telling you i get a little mad
To get a bit ahead takes all the time I have
Don't misunderstand me
All i want is a couple days off
Can't wait for the weekend
Ah baby just can't wait no
I don't need another high song to sing
I don't need a shiny new diamond ring
I don't need to meet nobody else
I just need a little time for myself
'cause I'm only human, I'm no machine
I need a little loving only you know what I mean
Don't misunderstand me
I'm not getting soft
All i want is a couple days off
Let me catch my breath
Thank god for the weekend
Back to the old grind
I don't need another long coffee break
I've had as much coffee as a man can take
I need to change my disposition
Change my point of view
I need time to figure out what i want to do
Believe me when i tell you it gets a little rough
We work a little harder but it never is enough
I'm not afraid to say
I'm a total loss
All i want is a couple days off
Can't wait for the weekend
In Huey Lewis & The News's song "Couple Days Off," the singer expresses his desire for some time away from work to spend with his daughter and to have time to himself. The lyrics describe the struggle of balancing work and family life, and the toll it takes on a person's well-being. The singer admits to getting mad when he can't seem to get ahead, but emphasizes that he's not getting "soft." Rather, he just wants some time to catch his breath and re-focus on what's important. The repetition of the phrase "Can't wait for the weekend" emphasizes the singer's anticipation for a break from work, and his longing for some time to just be himself.
The song highlights the universal struggle of maintaining a work-life balance, especially for parents who want to provide for their children while also being present in their lives. The singer's desire for "a little time for myself" is relatable to anyone who has felt overwhelmed by the demands of work and life.

Probably not but still reached number 11. The early 90s was a horrible time for bands like this

wasn't a big fan of this song until I saw them perform it on TBS Super Bowl Party. They rocked it and got a polite golf clap from those in attendance. Needless to say, I really like this song now.
