From a first single in 1979, the group successfully combined a pop rock and power pop (and sometimes, a blues rock) influenced backing with harmony side-vocals and Lewis' strident voice, and the band had numerous hit songs during the 1980s and early 1990s. These include "The Power of Love" and "Back in Time" (both of which were featured in the film "Back to the Future"), "I Want a New Drug", "Doin' It All (For My Baby)", "Do You Believe in Love?" "Hip to Be Square", "Stuck With You", and "Jacob's Ladder". Huey Lewis shared three Grammy awards, an American Music Award, and a People's Choice Award along with several artists for his role singing the 1985 charity song "We Are the World" as well.

Cry to Me
Huey Lewis & The News Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And nobody call you on the phone
Doncha feel like crying
Doncha feel like crying like crying like crying
C'mon baby, cry to me
When you're all alone in your lonely room
And there's nothing but the smell of her perfume
Doncha feel like crying like crying like crying
C'mon baby, (c'mon) cry to me
Nothing could be sadder than a glass of wine alone
Loneliness loneliness, it just a waste of your time
But you don't ever you don't ever have to walk alone
You see, so c'mon take my hand
C'mon walk with me
When you're waiting for a voice to come
In the night there is no one
Doncha feel like crying
Doncha feel like crying like crying like crying
C'mon baby, cry to me
C'mon baby, that's right cry to me
Yes, I want you to come on baby
C'mon c'mon cry to me
I want you to c'mon baby
C'mon c'mon and cry to me
Yeah c'mon baby c'mon I want you to cry cry cry to me
Yeah I want you to cry cry cry cry cry cry cry
I want you to cry cry cry cry cry cry cry cry
The song "Cry to Me" by Huey Lewis & The News is a cover of a song by Solomon Burke. The lyrics talk about the pain and loneliness that one feels after a breakup or when missing someone they love. The first verse talks about how when someone is left alone, they feel the need to cry out to someone. They may even contemplate the idea of crying or wishing to cry to release their emotions. The second verse talks about how being alone in a room surrounded by someone else's perfume only amplifies the feeling of loneliness and brings on tears. The chorus repeats the phrase "cry to me" urging the listener to let out their emotions and reach out for support.
The bridge of the song talks about the sadness of being alone with a glass of wine and how loneliness is just a waste of time. The lyrics suggest taking someone's hand and walking with them instead of being alone. The final verse mentions the feeling of waiting for someone to call or come back, but the loneliness persists. The song concludes with the repetitive chorus once more, urging the listener to cry out and connect with someone.
