From a first single in 1979, the group successfully combined a pop rock and power pop (and sometimes, a blues rock) influenced backing with harmony side-vocals and Lewis' strident voice, and the band had numerous hit songs during the 1980s and early 1990s. These include "The Power of Love" and "Back in Time" (both of which were featured in the film "Back to the Future"), "I Want a New Drug", "Doin' It All (For My Baby)", "Do You Believe in Love?" "Hip to Be Square", "Stuck With You", and "Jacob's Ladder". Huey Lewis shared three Grammy awards, an American Music Award, and a People's Choice Award along with several artists for his role singing the 1985 charity song "We Are the World" as well.

Don't Look Back
Huey Lewis & The News Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Took you're car and a Steely Dan
There's only one thing to do
Keep on walking and don't look back
Head on down to the chicken shack
Go and act like a maniac
Keep on walking and don't look back
Had a little trouble with a guy at work
Got a great big mouth for a little jerk
Got a lot of bills one check won't pay
And a love that's real is fading away
There's only one thing to do
Keep on walking and don't look back
Head on down to the chicken shack
Go and act like a maniac
Keep on walking and don't look back
Keep on walking and don't look back
Don't you just sing the blues
Keep on walking and never look back
Put on your walking shoes
Keep on walking and don't look back, never look back
Just chalk it up to history, set yourself free
Keep on walking and don't look back
Head on down to the chicken shack
Go and act like a maniac
Keep on walking and don't look back
The lyrics of Huey Lewis & The News's song Don't Look Back speak about a man who has faced several challenges in his life. It starts with him being ditched by his woman for another man and taking his car and a Steely Dan. Feeling lost and dejected, he decides to keep walking and not looking back. He heads towards the chicken shack and acts like a maniac to divert his mind from the distressing situation.
Further on, the lyrics talk about how the man has financial troubles, an irritating guy at work, and his love fading away. But he decides to keep moving forward and never look back. He advises himself to put on his walking shoes and continue walking towards his destiny without worrying about the past. The lyrics encourage the listener to chalk it up to history and set yourself free.
The song expresses an important message about overcoming challenges in life. It urges listeners to keep moving forward and never give up. No matter what the situation, one needs to be resilient and continue to march ahead to achieve their goals.
