From a first single in 1979, the group successfully combined a pop rock and power pop (and sometimes, a blues rock) influenced backing with harmony side-vocals and Lewis' strident voice, and the band had numerous hit songs during the 1980s and early 1990s. These include "The Power of Love" and "Back in Time" (both of which were featured in the film "Back to the Future"), "I Want a New Drug", "Doin' It All (For My Baby)", "Do You Believe in Love?" "Hip to Be Square", "Stuck With You", and "Jacob's Ladder". Huey Lewis shared three Grammy awards, an American Music Award, and a People's Choice Award along with several artists for his role singing the 1985 charity song "We Are the World" as well.

Heart and Soul
Huey Lewis & The News Lyrics

If she should come a calling
I couldn't dream of turning her away
And if it got hot and hectic
I know she'd be electric
I'd let her take her chances with me
You see, the gets what she wants
She's hot and cold
She's got it all, hot loving every night, oh
Oh
Can't you see her standing there
See how she looks, see how she cares
I let her steal the night away from me
Nine o'clock this morning
She left without a warning
I let her take advantage of me
You see, she got what she wanted
'Cause she's heart and soul
She's hot and cold
She's got it all, hot loving every night, oh
Oh
Yes it's heart and soul
She's hot and cold
She's got it all
She's heart and soul, yeah
She's got hot loving every night, oh
Oh
She's got it all
She's heart and soul
She's heart and soul
She's heart and soul
She's heart and soul
She's heart and soul
She's heart and soul
The song "Heart and Soul" by Huey Lewis & The News tells the story of a man who's clearly enamored with a woman who is both hot and cold, but irresistibly charming. He can't help but be drawn to her even though he knows he could get hurt. He sings, "Two o'clock this morning, if she should come a calling, I couldn't dream of turning her away...I'd let her take her chances with me, you see, she gets what she wants." This suggests he's aware of the risks of being with her but is willing to take them for the chance of experiencing her passion.
The chorus reinforces the idea that she's both hot and cold, saying "She's got it all, hot loving every night, oh." He finds her irresistible and can't help but be drawn to her. Later in the song, he regrets letting her take advantage of him, but he still can't deny his feelings for her. "Nine o'clock this morning, she left without a warning, I let her take advantage of me, you see, she got what she wanted." It's a song about the highs and lows of passionate love, where the risks are high, but the rewards are worth it.
