They had a run of hit singles during the 1980s and early 1990s, scoring a total of 19 top-ten singles across the US Billboard Hot 100, Adult Contemporary and Mainstream Rock charts. Their greatest success was with their number-one album, 'Sports'. Their worldwide fame expanded when their recording of "The Power of Love" was featured as a key track in the 1985 movie "Back to the Future" (in which Huey Lewis made a cameo appearance). The song became a number-one hit, and it was nominated for an Academy Award.
From a first single in 1979, the group successfully combined a pop rock and power pop (and sometimes, a blues rock) influenced backing with harmony side-vocals and Lewis' strident voice, and the band had numerous hit songs during the 1980s and early 1990s. These include "The Power of Love" and "Back in Time" (both of which were featured in the film "Back to the Future"), "I Want a New Drug", "Doin' It All (For My Baby)", "Do You Believe in Love?" "Hip to Be Square", "Stuck With You", and "Jacob's Ladder". Huey Lewis shared three Grammy awards, an American Music Award, and a People's Choice Award along with several artists for his role singing the 1985 charity song "We Are the World" as well.

If Only I Could
Huey Lewis & The News Lyrics
No, please don't cry
I've never done this before, drove a million miles
Back, when you were mine
I was too young to know you were the one to find
But if I was to say I regret it
Would it mean a thing?
Cause every time I think (I think) think about it
Memories take me back to all of the wildest times
If I could change your mind
I would hit the ground running
It took time to realize
And I never saw it coming
Forgive my lying eyes
Gonna give you all or nothing
If I could change your mind
I could make you mine, make you mine
Now I won't go
I won't run away this time
But all I wanna know
But if I was to say I'll forget it
Would it mean a thing?
Cause every time I think (I think) about it
Memories take me back to all of the wildest times
If I could change your mind
I would hit the ground running
It took time to realize
And I never saw it coming
Forgive my lying eyes
Gonna give you all or nothing
If I could change your mind
I could make you mine, make you mine
Visions of our love pass right by me
Your eyes are enough to remind me
Visions of our love pass right by me
Your eyes are enough to remind me
Visions of our love remind me
If I could change your mind
I would hit the ground running
It took time to realize
And I never saw it coming
Forgive my lying eyes
Gonna give you all or nothing
If I could change your mind
I could make you mine, make you mine
Visions of our love remind me
(If could change your mind)
Visions of our love remind me
(It took time to realize)
Visions of our love remind me
(Forgive my lying eyes)
Visions of our love remind me
(If I could change your mind, I could make you mine...)

Song so catchy most people don't listen to the lyrics
@christosstamato527
True. This is actually a rather sad song, despite the Beach Boys-like doo wop harmonies and the melodic guitar by Chris Hayes.
Hell, Hayes' solo can make a grown dude cry and Huey knocked it out of the park! Probably his greatest (and one of the most emotive) vocal performance to date!
On a side note, I do agree Mr Bateman. And no, their masterpiece most likely wasn't 'Hip To Be Square'!
@BruceBowman42
@Chris Stamato One of the best leads ever.

Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.

There are certain 80’s songs that give me an overwhelmingly painful and bittersweet sense of nostalgia. This is definitely one of them
@FeCr3
Ohhh yes..... : .(

So true!

I said the same thing in. This one and a few others from the 80's.
