It
Huey Lewis & The News Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

They say it's alright
They say it's alright
It's alright, have a good time
'Cause it's alright, whoa it's alright

Now we gonna move it slow
When the lights are low
When you move it slow
It feels like more
Cause it's alright
Whoa it's alright

Now listen to the beat
Kinda' tap your feet
You got soul
Everybody knows that it's alright
Whoa it's alright

When you wake up early in the morning
Feeling sad like so many of us do
Hold a little soul
And make life your goal
And surely something's gotta come to you

And you gotta say it's alright
Say it's alright
It's alright, have a good time
Cause it's alright
Whoa it's alright

Someday I'll find me a woman
Who will love me and treat me real nice
Where my road has got to go
My love she will know from morning, noon
Until the night

And she's gotta say that it's alright
Say it's alright
It's alright, have a good time
Cause it's alright
Whoa it's alright
Now listen to the beat
Kinda' tap your feet
You got soul
Everybody knows that it's alright
Whoa it's alright
You got soul

Everybody knows that it's alright
Whoa it's alright

Overall Meaning

The song "It's Alright" by Huey Lewis & The News is a classic rock song with uplifting and positive lyrics. The song starts by repeating "they say it's alright," suggesting that whatever worries or troubles the listener might have, they should just let go and have a good time. The tempo then slows down, and the lyrics ask the listener to move slowly to the music. When they do, it feels like more and everything is alright. The song suggests that the rhythm and soul within everybody make everything alright, so when the listener feels sad, they should listen to the beat, tap their feet, and say it's alright.

The second part of the song talks about finding love and a woman who will treat the singer nicely. The lyrics describe how the singer wants to find love and have somebody they can trust no matter what happens in their life. The song ends with the same message as at the beginning, that it's alright, and everybody has got soul even if they wake up in the morning feeling sad.

Song so catchy most people don't listen to the lyrics

@christosstamato527

True. This is actually a rather sad song, despite the Beach Boys-like doo wop harmonies and the melodic guitar by Chris Hayes.

Hell, Hayes' solo can make a grown dude cry and Huey knocked it out of the park! Probably his greatest (and one of the most emotive) vocal performance to date!

On a side note, I do agree Mr Bateman. And no, their masterpiece most likely wasn't 'Hip To Be Square'!

@Chris Stamato One of the best leads ever.

Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.

There are certain 80’s songs that give me an overwhelmingly painful and bittersweet sense of nostalgia. This is definitely one of them

So true!

I said the same thing in. This one and a few others from the 80's.
