They had a run of hit singles during the 1980s and early 1990s, scoring a total of 19 top-ten singles across the US Billboard Hot 100, Adult Contemporary and Mainstream Rock charts. Their greatest success was with their number-one album, 'Sports'. Their worldwide fame expanded when their recording of "The Power of Love" was featured as a key track in the 1985 movie "Back to the Future" (in which Huey Lewis made a cameo appearance). The song became a number-one hit, and it was nominated for an Academy Award.

From a first single in 1979, the group successfully combined a pop rock and power pop (and sometimes, a blues rock) influenced backing with harmony side-vocals and Lewis' strident voice, and the band had numerous hit songs during the 1980s and early 1990s. These include "The Power of Love" and "Back in Time" (both of which were featured in the film "Back to the Future"), "I Want a New Drug", "Doin' It All (For My Baby)", "Do You Believe in Love?" "Hip to Be Square", "Stuck With You", and "Jacob's Ladder". Huey Lewis shared three Grammy awards, an American Music Award, and a People's Choice Award along with several artists for his role singing the 1985 charity song "We Are the World" as well.

While my friends in school listened to the Strangkers U2 Madonna Dire Straits and so on I listened to Huey Lewis on my Walkman either For Sports and Perfect World and looking back I was the happiest in my class. This is because they were a great up lifting band that brought great joy to their fans. You could not possibly be in a bad mood after listening to them. Pity more bands of today dont do the same.😀😀

I'm 44 years old and still love them. I was in 3rd grade when power of love came out. Love that song. I remember bringing the album fore to P.E. class in 5th grade and my teacher playing it while we played games and stuff. I loved that album and those guys. Still do.

This is such a great song, like many from Huey Lewis & The News! Never get tired of hearing their songs, especially this one! It’s a shame 80s radio stations don’t play this tune when it was successful like their other songs were! To put things into perspective, I saw that it was their last top ten US hit, peaking at Number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in late summer 1988, only denied from moving further up the charts by “Sweet Child ‘O’ Mine” by Guns ‘N’ Roses at Number 1 and “Simply Irresistible” by Robert Palmer at Number 2. Anyway, “Perfect World” is such a highly underrated song! Even if many radio stations don’t play it, I want to enjoy this song for what it is, an awesome, fun piece of music!

I absolutely love this song by Huey Lewis and the News. I have listened to his music since I was in high school during the early 80's. But recently, I purchased the "Greatest Hits" cd by him and listened to this song today and instantly fell in love with it. I am hooked on it now! Great video!

That’s because they were riding on momentum from their past songs. They deviated from the formula. It’s one of those things where their fans wanted to like it, but they finally figured out they didn’t, and it didn’t stand the test of time. The change in style didn’t go over with their core fans.

One of the best music videos ever to have been made. Always makes me think of the lyric from "Hip to Be Square'...'I like my bands in business suits!' If you look at other groups from this period they have dated pretty badly (appearance/style not the actual music) however HLN looked cool back then and in this video they still do today. They had class. All their videos were fun and full of humour something this modern world doesn't seem to want anymore. More than ever I need to keep on believing in maybe not a perfect world but certainly a better than the one we've created.

I love this song! This is perhaps the best Huey Lewis & the News song that my soft rock stations NEVER play! I'm always hearing "Power of Love" or "If This Is It" constantly but I haven't heard "Perfect World" since I heard it when I was 9! But I guess the rarity of this makes the song worthier 2 listen to as opposed to those "greater hits."

This was one of my favorite albums because it was different and musically it was a stretch from the stuff we heard from the past. the horns were terrific and the songs were upbeat it had a different kind of energy to it. Soulsville is an album that really is a stretch for the band however its the stuff THEY like so keep on rockin Huey your still #1 in my book.

People ask why this song did not get more play. I think by this time Huey Lewis and The News had come on the scene lighting fast and proved themselves with one power single after another. The DJs are notoriously fickle. It IS an outstanding song. But in the days of radio, only a few select known acts got all their top songs played equally. The Eagles did, but it took years for that to happen. Huey did a lot of great work in a very short time.

Hahahaha! Takes me back - my best friend's 10th birthday party. We all made music videos of our favorite songs, and this was mine. We lip synced and did the whole 'forward and back' to the mikes, and someone was off camera with a fan blowing newspapers at us. We actually practiced the routine for days leading up to the party. :-) So much fun! I love this band, still.

In the 80s and 90s, this wasn't my favorite, but it was up there. Through the years and getting older and around, it's pretty much neck and neck now with Jacobs Latter. It's not a perfect world, but this is damn near a perfect song.
