From a first single in 1979, the group successfully combined a pop rock and power pop (and sometimes, a blues rock) influenced backing with harmony side-vocals and Lewis' strident voice, and the band had numerous hit songs during the 1980s and early 1990s. These include "The Power of Love" and "Back in Time" (both of which were featured in the film "Back to the Future"), "I Want a New Drug", "Doin' It All (For My Baby)", "Do You Believe in Love?" "Hip to Be Square", "Stuck With You", and "Jacob's Ladder". Huey Lewis shared three Grammy awards, an American Music Award, and a People's Choice Award along with several artists for his role singing the 1985 charity song "We Are the World" as well.

She Shot a Hole in My Soul
Huey Lewis & The News Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'm walking all over town
calling her name and trying to find her
she shot a hole in my soul-yeah
knockin and beatin on every door
Some pity me
and people start to cry
one man said he helped me
but I thanked him and said goodbye
'cause I've got to keep on trying-oh
I'm going crazy, about to lose my mind
I've got to keep on trying
I'm going crazy, about to lose my mind
My heart says
without a love you're dying
baby, baby, baby
can't you hear me crying
say, oooh
woooh, help me somebody
She shot a hole in my soul
I'm walking all over town
calling her name and try to find her
she shot a hole in my soul-yeah
I'm walking all over town
knockin and beatin on every door
I walked into a club
jumped up and grabbed the microphone
I asked the man, leading the band
to let me sing a song
'cause my heart says
without a love you're dying
baby, baby, baby
can't you hear me crying
say, oooh
woooh
She shot a hole in my soul
I'm walking all over town
calling her name and try to find her
she shot a hole in my soul-yeah
I'm walking all over town
knockin and beatin on every door
The song "She Shot a Hole in My Soul" by Huey Lewis & The News tells the story of a man who is deeply in love with a woman who has left him heartbroken. He is wandering around town, shouting her name and searching for her, desperate to reconnect with her. The lyrics suggest that he feels lost and on the verge of losing his mind, and he believes that only finding his lost love can save him from this mental anguish.
As the song progresses, we see the singer turning to others for help, but finding only pity and false comfort. He eventually takes matters into his own hands, walking into a club and grabbing the microphone to sing out his pain. The song's refrain repeats the line, "She shot a hole in my soul," emphasizing the singer's emotional devastation and the depth of his love for this woman.
Overall, the song captures the intense emotions of heartbreak and lost love, as the singer struggles to cope with the pain of separation and yearns to reunite with his beloved.
