From a first single in 1979, the group successfully combined a pop rock and power pop (and sometimes, a blues rock) influenced backing with harmony side-vocals and Lewis' strident voice, and the band had numerous hit songs during the 1980s and early 1990s. These include "The Power of Love" and "Back in Time" (both of which were featured in the film "Back to the Future"), "I Want a New Drug", "Doin' It All (For My Baby)", "Do You Believe in Love?" "Hip to Be Square", "Stuck With You", and "Jacob's Ladder". Huey Lewis shared three Grammy awards, an American Music Award, and a People's Choice Award along with several artists for his role singing the 1985 charity song "We Are the World" as well.

Whole lotta lovin
Huey Lewis & The News Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I want to stop dreamin', and get back home to the real thing
Late last night I read the letter you sent
Woke up this morning, under a tent
We've got a whole lotta lovin' to do
I'm tired of these girly magazines
I want to stop dreamin', and get back home to the real thing
Woke up this morning, under a tent
We've got a whole lotta lovin' to do
My mini bar's empty, but I'm still alive
I'm all alone but my bed's big enough for a party of five
Tossing and turning until a quarter to three
Can't get to sleep without watching TV
We've got a whole lotta lovin' to do
We've got a whole lotta lovin' to do
Oh, it's been weeks since I've seen you
I'm hoping that you mean it
Tell me that you understand
But there's one little thing that I'm worried about
I hope that you remember who I am
I'm the one with the harmonica
Oh, it's been weeks since I've seen you
I'm hoping that you mean it
Tell me that you understand
But there's one little thing that I'm worried about
I hope that you remember who I am
Everybody else is holding hands
I'm here lonely, playing around with my microphone stand
And I'm coming home, only one more week
The first three days we won't get no sleep
We've got a whole lotta lovin' to do
We've got a whole lotta lovin' to do
A whole lotta lovin'
A whole lotta lovin'
We've got a whole lotta lovin'
The lyrics of "Whole Lotta Lovin'" by Huey Lewis & The News deals with the craving of the singer for the real thing rather than the contents of girly magazines. As he reads a letter from his lover, he wants to get home to her and experience a whole lotta lovin'. The singer is going through some sleepless nights due to his longing for her. He tries to distract himself by watching TV and playing with his microphone stand while others are holding hands. The song expresses how the singer needs his lover, and he is willing to do anything to be with her.
The song lyrics generate love, passion, and a sense of longing. The lyrics suggest a period when the singer is away from his lover and is missing her terribly. The song further highlights how people can feel when they are away from their loved ones. The lyrics convey the passage of time as the singer counts down the days until he returns home, thus emphasizing the urgency he feels to be with his lover.
