Long time friends Glen Hughes and Joe Lynn Turner had first planned to release an album together in 1989, the two got together and wrote some demos, but nothing ended up being released from these sessions. In 2000 Hughes toured Japan with Turner, followed by joint appearances during the Voices of Classic Rock tour in 2001. During this time the two decided to start work on a new collaboration.
The duo released their first album in February 2002, it was simply called HTP. The album featured Hughes’ regular guitarist JJ Marsh, who contributed to much of the song-writing. There were also contributions drummer Shane Galaas and keyboardist Vince DiCola as well as guest guitarists John Sykes, Paul Gilbert and Akira Kajiyama. The follow-up album, simply titled HTP 2 was released in September 2003 and was stylistically in a similar vein to the first record.
After the conclusion of the 2004 tour the pair decided to put the Hughes Turner Project on an indefinite hiatus so they could focus more on their solo careers
Alone I Breathe
Hughes Turner Project Lyrics

I see the rising of the black cat bone
You are so heavy, make me turn to stone
Give information to me next of kin
Roll up the wheels, now let it begin
Now don't you want to hear the words I say?
Alone I breathe, Alone I grieve
Alone I leave, Alone I breathe
Don't wanna live in no battle ground
You see my picture in the lost and found
Don't wanna sleep with no dogs of war
You're never gonna see my face no more
Now don't you want to hear the words I say?
Alone I breathe, Alone I grieve
Alone I leave, Alone I breathe
I know this really is my destiny
We live and die it's such a shame
Life is so strange but it's no tragedy
But you have no respect for me
You scream in tales of mystery
The lyrics of Alone I Breathe by Hughes Turner Project are full of metaphorical language and dramatic imagery. The first verse "I see the rising of the black cat bone, You are so heavy, make me turn to stone" could be interpreted as the singer seeing a dark omen, symbolized by the black cat bone rising. The next line "You are so heavy, make me turn to stone" could suggest that this omen is weighing heavily on them, almost paralyzing them.
The next verse "Don't wanna live in no battle ground, You see my picture in the lost and found, Don't wanna sleep with no dogs of war, You're never gonna see my face no more" could be interpreted as the singer's desire to avoid conflict and to remove themselves from any dangerous or violent situations. They are likening themselves to a lost item, and want nothing to do with those who are involved in conflicts or war.
The chorus "Alone I breathe, Alone I grieve, Alone I leave, Alone I breathe" seems to suggest that the singer is isolated and feeling a sense of loneliness or loss. They are breathing alone, leaving alone, and grieving alone.
Overall, the lyrics seem to be about someone who is trying to escape a dangerous or negative situation, and is feeling very isolated and alone in their journey to do so.
