The Dungeon
Human.i.zer Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Gettin' real suspicious of the one I love
It's like she's baring down and she's way too close to my back

Call an army marching towards me
Make it fast like a bullet
I want to feel it burn through me

I feel the ground start to shake
And every breath that we take
Meant so much to me and less to you

Everyone everywhere has their shit and I don't care
I'm merely suggesting to try to think about the mess that you're making

Pick up the garbage
Cause most of it's yours
Bring the bag outside
Come in before it pours

I feel the ground start to shake
And every breath that we take
Meant so much to me and less to you
It's like you know things that I'll never know
Well I know I know I know I know I know
I know

Sweetie it's hard for me to stay mad
sweetie it's hard for me to stay so mad
Your second chances are just piling up alright

I feel the ground start to shake
And every breath that we take
Meant so much to me and less to you

It's like you know things that I'll never know
Well I know I know I know I know I know

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "The Dungeon" by Human.i.zer depicts a relationship that is on the brink of collapse due to trust issues. The persona is getting increasingly suspicious of their partner and feels like they are being suffocated. The line, "It's like she's baring down and she's way too close to my back," portrays the paranoia and unease felt by the persona. They call out for help, wanting an army to come and rescue them from the impending doom they feel is approaching. The desire to feel that intensity burn through them is almost masochistic in nature, highlighting the desperation of the situation.

Amidst the chaos and distrust, the persona realizes that everyone has their own problems, but they urge their partner to take responsibility for their mess. "Pick up the garbage 'cause most of it's yours, bring the bag outside, come in before it pours," is a call for accountability and an attempt to salvage what is left of the relationship. Towards the end, the persona acknowledges that forgiveness is difficult but also recognizes the accumulation of second chances given in the past. The final lines, "It's like you know things that I'll never know, well, I know I know I know I know I know," are a reflection of the power dynamic in the relationship where the persona perceives their partner to hold more information and control.

The best class for variant human?

1. All of them.

Joking aside, I would say that V. Humans are great in every class but the trade off is their ability scores. If you aren't using point buy, and want a +2 to potentially get a 18 or 20 you have to take specific feats to get there depending on the class. Charisma based casters get it the worst by only having Actor.

That's why certain races lend themselves better to certain classes through their racial abilities. A Half-orc makes a better Champion Fighter than a Human and can choose to not die. A Mountain Dwarf basically gets two free armor feats that can turn any class into a frontline tank if you build it correctly. Tabaxi get the two best skills in the game for free and that's just one ability.

The point is, humans are great and playing humans is great. But the natural bonuses that other races get can allow for more gainful or interesting combinations with certain classes, which can appeal to people who want to play more conceptually interesting and build specific characters.

I raise you my swashbuckler X/hexblade 3 with booming blade. Not because it's better but because it just straight up neutralizes the polearm sentinel combo.
You don't get to punish me when I get close. You don't get to punish me when I try to leave. In fact, I get to punish you when I get close and once again when you try to chaise after me.

Granted, the bugbear reach means I won't actually get to leave your reach with my specific rogue. I'm better off having him use his darkness + devil's sight combo paired with elven accuracy and just kite and sneak attack you from range. Alternatively, any ranged build with mobility (especially the feat and flying) should do.
Or, you know, I can just use the darkness + devil's sight combo in melee to straight up ignore opportunity attacks because they require sight . That'll still leave me my bonus action to dash away :P

Generally, if you're a DM and you want to create an encounter where the party polearm sentinel struggles, just heavily obscure the fighting area and thus you have neutralized polearm sentinel. I once had a trap that released an eversmoking bottle that obscured everything and provoked several swarms of bats to attack. There are also other options like ranged enemies with fly speeds or even straight up invisibility, but finding a way to heavily obscure an area involves a bit more creativity and flexibility. You can get heavily obscuring steam, smoke or mist/fog from both spells, traps and natural phenomena. Bonus points if you make it so the other members of the party can de-obfuscate the area and thus force the polearm sentinel to at least once in a while be reliant on the party.

@HelpMeOuch

I disagree about humans not being warlocks... I think that a human warlock is by far the most logical creature to turn over their soul for power than any of the others. They generally have the shortest life span, and do not have innate magic burning through their blood like most other races. So, some may feel that they don't have long enough to learn how to become a wizard, lack the talent to be a bard, and devotion to be a cleric . . . . and figure what is a soul anyway? And say, "here you go, now give me the power!"

For the Power of Greyskull!!

This video seems dimly lit.
...Or is it just that, as a Human, I lack Darkvision?

@DungeonDudes

We incorrectly assumed the target audience for this video would be mostly species with dark vision wanting to learn about humans. As it turns out, our audience is 98% human and thus our lighting was not appropriate.

My favorite thing about Humans in D&D settings is that bit of lore from the Dragonlance setting that establishes that humans are the "Horn Dog" race of the universe that can produce offspring with any sentient creature that's bipedal (or a dragon) and are the species that's most likely to try to do so.

What? Anyone who's been on the internet for more then ten minutes knows that this isn't THAT much of a stretch.

@curtthekid402

I dunno man, I don't think it's propaganda. I mean, those Kobolds be lookin' kinda thick.

@Torthrodhel

my half-ettercap is offended :P

@cawcawcaw9160

Or a lot of a stretch, depending on the human's partner.
