Escape
Humble Braggers Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It's your only chance to escape
And hunt me down
You feel I'm just a haunting sound
It's hard to explain how you feel when you keep hiding
Push ahead
You feel you're at an end
And close me out from help
I believe in your heart but you just can't admit
It's hard to explain how you feel
When you don't know just what is real
Holding onto what I have
But now you're moving
On from me you've paved your path
You're jumping in line
Can't we just sit back and think about this
Placing all your faith in past actions
It's hard to explain how you feel
When you don't know just what is real
It's hard to explain how you feel
While all your friends just cope and deal
Holding onto what I have
But now you're moving
On from me you've paved your path
You're jumping in line
Can't we just sit back and think about this
Placing all your faith in past actions
The lyrics of Humble Braggers' song "Escape" are about the desire to get away from one's current situation and the struggle to do so. The lines "fade away, it's your only chance to escape, and hunt me down, you feel I'm just a haunting sound" allude to the sensation of feeling trapped and haunted by one's circumstances. The singer is encouraging the listener to push ahead and try to break free, even though it may be difficult.
The next lines "you're wearing down, you feel you're at an end, and close me out from help, I believe in your heart but you just can't admit" reveals that the listener is feeling exhausted and overwhelmed. They are struggling to ask for help or admit their own limitations, despite the singer's belief in them. This may be due to a fear of judgement or a desire to maintain control.
The chorus repeats the phrase "it's hard to explain how you feel when you don't know just what is real" which suggests that the listener may be confused or unsure about their own emotions. The singer acknowledges that this is a challenging place to be in and encourages them to think about their situation from a different perspective ("can't we just sit back and think about this"). The song concludes with the lines "holding onto what I have, but now you're moving on, from me you've paved your path, you're jumping in line" which suggest that while the singer may not understand the listener's situation completely, they are supportive of them moving forward and making a change.
