@Alex Mercer I feel like it was just a way to take the emeralds away from the player. Knuckles never does anything like that ever again either.

What would work better imo is if Sonic couldn't use the emeralds properly when he was showing off. He then crashes into the island going back to his normal state causing the emeralds to leave him. Knuckles sees this and takes the emeralds away.

So let me get this straight.
Knuckles came down from his floating Island to collect the pieces of the Master Emerald in Sonic Adventure and along the way, just so happened to wander into a recording studio in Station Square, and put together his own theme song, Unknown from M.E. Ver. 1, despite having no musical experience, living in isolation his whole life, and somehow managed to make at as soulful and gangster as he possibly could.
Then, following that, he went to definitely-not-San-Fransisco in Sonic Adventure 2 and wrote Unknown from M.E. ver. 2, went through the rest of the game with the others he won't rely on, and then, following the events, wrote 5 other songs detailing his journey.

edit: fuck, i just realized that i wrote a whole ranty paragraph mostly about a band that is completely unrelated to this song. whatever, it still applies.

SA2 has probably one of the best soundtracks in the series, and you can mostly thank Crush 40 for that. Unfortunately, when SEGA collectively had a metaphorical brain aneurysm in 2005 and threw all logic and common sense out of the top floor window of their head offices, the idea of using Crush 40 music went along with it. Jun Senoue still works for SEGA's sound department, but the iconic Crush 40 sound hasn't been heard in Sonic games since 2003. Here's to hoping that they bring back Crush 40, Marlon Sanders, and Hunnid P for Project 2017!

Well actually since his running animation is very frantic, exerting himself to keep up with Sonic, no one stopping his feet works because unlike Sonic he has to concentrate on how he moves to keep up. Just found that to be a nice parallel to his ingame animations.

When he came out in Sonic 3, his original theme was just that straight up hip hop beat. Initially associated with Black people but now shared with everyone. I used to think that it was a bit extreme for Knuckles to immediately resort to shattering the Master Emerald...but remember Hidden Palace Zone where a similar thing happened? Knuckles got electrocuted by Eggman. He probably shattered the Master Emerald because he thought Eggman would try that again.

knuckles actually has a deeper history in the archie comics. turns out he is a mutant, created by his father to be the ultimate guardian. at one point he actually became a living chaos emerald and was a all powerful god.

I like the one from Sonic Adventure but......I LOVE THIS ONE SO MUCH MORE!!! Oh my gosh the instrumentals, the rap, the original singing, everything is JUST PERFECT for me!!! I can honestly say in my opinion that Hunnid-P sweeps the floor with Kanye West, Lil Wayne, and T-Pain!!!!!
