Salt
Hybrid Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Burn in the distance
I can see the shape
It won't be long till you taste salt with me
I heard the wind whisper something to my mind

I feel feverish–a little–it's just beneath my skin
It's the moment before something starts and something begins
I can taste salt on your skin

I have found another place to play
And slowly and steadily, I am falling away

And so I'm finding I'm getting the right things
And finally you are losing your head
I always wanted to taste the bittersweet
And you're swept away

Birds and bees torment me and use my shape
On other matters bring me air to breathe
And let me feel salt in my hair

I feel feverish–a little–it's just beneath my skin
It's the moment where the fear digs in
Yeah, I can taste salt on your skin

You have found a better place to play
But slowly and steadily, we are falling away

And now you're finding you're getting the right things
And finally you are losing your head
You always wanted to taste the bittersweet
And you're swept away

I will be rolled over and over
You're getting pulled down underwater
And as the bittersweet digs in
I can taste salt on your skin

I can taste salt on your skin
I can taste salt on your skin

I can taste salt on your skin
I can taste salt on your skin

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Hybrid's song Salt carry a sense of foreboding and unease as the singer sees a shape in the distance and anticipates tasting salt with someone. The repetition of the phrase "I can taste salt on your skin" becomes more ominous as the song progresses, hinting at a possible danger or a dark outcome. The reference to feeling feverish and the use of the phrase "the moment before something starts and something begins" add to the sense of tension and uncertainty.

The lyrics are open to interpretation, but there seems to be a theme of letting go, losing control, and being swept away. The singer talks about finding another place to play and falling away slowly and steadily, while the other person is getting the right things and losing their head. The reference to birds and bees tormenting the singer and pulling them underwater also suggests a feeling of being trapped or overwhelmed.

Overall, the lyrics of Salt convey a complex mix of feelings, including desire, anxiety, and even a tinge of desperation. The song's atmospheric sound and haunting vocals add to the overall effect of the lyrics, making for a memorable and evocative listening experience.

A lot of music has sexual themes, but Hybrid's songs goes so much further and really brings out the deep and the primal feelings.

@tone3560

everything is sexual then

I'm a child of the 60s and 70s. I like vintage 'anything', and I like the old school way of doing things. I feel like I'm breaking the rules when I play music from Hybrid...I love this group!

@Thribbulous

Agree. A tune which manages to be dark and uplifting at the same time. The whole album is incredible. If you're reading this, look to the right and find Original Sin...

@leventunver

Original Sin, Disappear Here, Formula of Fear... all of them are amazing songs. great album.

The only reason I found this amazing band is when the audio player wasn’t working in my moms car so she decided to play a cd she found (it was originally my aunts car) and disappear here (the whole album ) was on it
