It's Gonna Be Okay
I-Octane Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

How's about a date?
When you finish your bicep curls
You probably think I'm strange
Well right back at you, cause you want it too, girl
Don't overthink
What's the worst that could happen here?
Don't disagree
Cause if it works then we split then we meet at the gym
So what?
It'll be okay
I'll buy you a pass to the other gym, okay?
I'll even throw in the cab fare
It's okay
It'll be okay
The city's in decline
All the streets smell like Mary Jane
The money flows like wine, they say
And where it's flowing is down the drain
Don't demonstrate
You blame "the man" and you don't know what that means
Don't agitate
Cause if the man that you blame is the man in the sky
Guess what?
It'll be okay
I talk to homeless people every day
(Every day)
They're really well adjusted, they're doing great
(They're doing oh so great)
It'll be okay
(It'll be okay)
It'll be okay
It'll be okay
It'll be okay
Just the other day
I had a talk with my homeless friend
He asked me "How's your day?"
I said "It's fine. How is yours?" and he said
I should have stayed
Instead of going to war and starting a family
Why didn't I wait?
Now I'm alone in the streets with a hole in my head
But when I get my own planet
I'll be okay
The world's getting old but I'll have my own someday
I've got a bucket list of things that I'll create

It'll be okay
It'll be okay

Overall Meaning

In the first two stanzas of the song, the singer is trying to ask someone out on a date at the gym, but it seems like they are hesitating due to some sort of perceived social awkwardness. The singer uses the phrase "it'll be okay" to reassure the other person that there is no harm in trying to go out, even if it may seem a little strange or unorthodox. The song then takes a turn to describe the daily struggles of living in a city, in particular, how money is being wasted and how homelessness has become a pervasive issue. The singer then recounts a conversation with a homeless man who was regretful about some of his life choices, but who ultimately found comfort in the prospect of a new planet that he could call his own.
