In 2017, IC3PEAK released their first Russian language album Сладкая жизнь (Sweet Life). They've stated that they "felt the urge for a dialog with our native generation about common fears, problems and feelings without language barrier." The album took a darker trap approach to witch house with elements of art pop and glitch pop. A music video (entirely written, directed, stylized, produced, and edited by the duo) was made for the single "Грустная сука" ("Sad Bitch"), which has received 5.8 million views as of September 2018. This was followed by two non-album singles: "Monster" and "This World Is Sick," released in 2017 and 2018, respectively.
On September 14, 2018, IC3PEAK released the single "Сказка," showing a style much closer to trap rap/hip hop than witch house. A music video was produced for it, featuring animated artwork by artist Jakov Burov. Exactly two weeks later, an album also titled Сказка was released without any prior announcement.

The lyrics of the IC3PEAK song Яд (Poison) reflect a sense of fear and desperation. The singer speaks of their rising blood sugar and their need to escape from whoever is chasing them. Their body, heated to the point of glowing, shines like a cold moon in the sky. The city is filled with the names of the person after them, and there seems to be no escaping that. However, the singer knows a magic word that can calm their panic and fear.
The chorus speaks to the idea that the blood of the person chasing the singer is on their skin. Whatever they are doing together is dangerous, and the singer doesn't want to be a part of it. They don't care about the other person's money or any other superficial things they might offer. The singer turns off their night vision, warning the person that they should fear them and fear themselves because the scream they let out won't be heard by anyone. The singer submerges themselves like an angel and takes three stops within a magic circle. They don't need the other person's naked truth because to them, they are nothing but a dead body.
Overall, the song is about the fear of being caught in a dangerous situation and the need to escape. The singer realizes that they cannot trust the person pursuing them and knows they must get away.
