Time After Time
INOJ Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm lying in my bed
Hear the clock tickin'
I think of you
Caught up in circles
Confusion, there's nothing new
Flashback, warm nights
Almost left behind
Suitcase of memories
Time after
Sometimes you'll picture me
I'm walking too far ahead
You're calling to me
I can't hear what you say
And you say, go slow
I fall behind
The second hand unwinds

[Chorus]
If you're lost, you can look
And you will find me
Time after time
If you fall, I will catch you
I will be waiting
Time after time
Time after time

After my picture fades
And darkness has turned to gray
Watching through windows
You're wondering if I'm okay
Secret stolen
All from deep inside
The 808's on time

[Chorus]

And you say, go slow
I fall behind
The 808's on time

[Chorus: x2]

Time after time
Time after time

Overall Meaning

INOJ's "Time After Time" is a cover of the original song by Cyndi Lauper in 1984. The song is all about missing someone and trying to keep up with time. When she's lying in bed and hears the clock ticking, the singer thinks of her lover and how they seem to be going in circles, lost in confusion. She has flashback memories from the past when they spent warm nights together - memories that she's carrying around like a suitcase.

However, these memories are quickly replaced with a picture of her lover calling out to her while she walks ahead, completely immersed in her own world. Despite his calls, she's unable to listen to what he has to say, and he tells her to slow down before he's left falling behind. The chorus is hopeful and reassuring, with INOJ proclaiming that even if they're lost or fall, she'll always be there, waiting for him - time after time.

Overall, the lyrics convey the theme of the passage of time and how it can affect a relationship. Despite the confusion and mixed emotions, there's always hope to reconnect and come back together.
