I've thought about it since, and I suppose etymology doesn't have to be grounds for semantic interpretation of a term; language is the way we all agree upon communicating, and if "qui" is considered a gender-neutral way in the English language for somebody to comfortably identify quemself, there isn't a problem. Or, there is, but that lies in the "we all agree" part, which obviously lies in deeper societal issues.

Also, the fact that this video seems the most genuine of the burst of them makes me wonder if Jreg really does identify by different pronouns outside of YouTube which is on a level freaking me out because I don't want to refer to him by he/him, except that he says he would prefer that in isolation of his YouTube persona, and also that it's probably satire anyway, and—argh.

@Mick Robertson just because someone is non-binary doesn't specify that they aren't leaning closer to one binary rather than being in the direct center. in the case of neo-pronouns (just a guess I personally don't use them) their use is similar to naming yourself. if you think about it gendered names don't exist, we just associate names with a gender, choosing your own name for yourself will still be based on your views on the genderedness of the name, if you were to make up a name or use a foreign name it would fit your views of your gender. in much the same way, qui would be male leaning, it might not sound as masculine as the implications of he/him and it has a blank slate for qui to be quemself.

What is great is that you can tell that he sympathizes with a lot of these actual ideas, but at the same time is using common rhetorical skills to rationalize each ideology. The fact he can create these fairly solid arguments actually makes me feel more understanding and think kinder about everyone else. I think that doing this project can also make people care for these different versions of you, and I love it. I think jreg is almost certainly leaning heavily to the left, which makes this one of the least ironic versions of his reveal. The way I see it, this video is equal parts things jreg genuinely believes, parts that hold an element of sincerity but with a healthy dose of exaggeration, and satirical mockery of the parts he doesn't agree with.

How to understand Jreg: The point to grasp in order to understand Jreg himself and his channel, I think, is to not comprehend him at all in the first place*. what I mean by this is, by confusing us in this way, he is symbolically saying that *he falls outside the entire political compass as a whole*. He has no designated spot on it, he is unlabeled and thus in a position to mock and facetiously criticise every position on it. *Now, why doesn't he say this out loud and clear then? that's because if he did, it would make people label him as a centrist or as apolitical, which would still be a position inside the political compass! For Jreg, it is not merely sufficient that he in his mind alone knows that he falls outside the political compass, but he wants YOU in your mind also to label him as someone falling outside the political compass. This "labelling" can only be done if you don't give him a standard political label in the first place! i expected this part of the joke to be talking about how the ancom in the political compass rap didn't have many jokes associated with the character besides a DMT reference at the beginning and the nazi say "and all you do is complain you goddamn hippie," and so then later the voice and pronouns and whatnot were added in (tankie and ancap were also given voices and mannerisms but noticeably less so than the ancom, whereas the nazi was basically ridiculous enough on his own that he was left sounding like a "normal" guy)

This guy is actually a bit of a genius.

Firstly he approaches levels of irony that shouldn’t even be possible. Secondly he is able to articulate so many different views with such a strong level of conviction that they all sound appealing. This is his point I think, he wants to show that politics is so essentially defined by a person and their own personal experience that it is ultimately worthless as a system of morality/governance for a group of people. Basically, ultimately, politics shouldn’t even exist. Fuck. No I think I’ve confused myself... dammit Jreg

I think that he's basically saying everything he believes. He's just wording it in a way that makes him sound like he's each ideology. As he said in his "where I stand politically", it's okay to hold multiple beliefs that don't fit into one box.
