King in Ruins
I AM I Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Close together
Miles apart inside
Differences we cannot seem to hide

Fear and anger
Overcome your pride
Messed up way of life you need to get by
You know forever
It's such a long long time
To live your heart must beat to stay alive
Why the heartache
Why the mindless crime
Stand outside the box and open your eyes

Still the blood run through my veins
There's a place that I belong
Roots in foreign soil
Still my heart beats on
Reach inside your soul
Fight the anger you control
It's time, it's time, leave the world behind

Not a place we ain't been
Conquered all the world
What a scene

The past will haunt us
The future won't be kind
Don't say what you will
Don't say that we cannot survive

Still the blood run through my veins
There's a place that I belong
Roots in foreign soil
Still my heart beats on
Reach inside your soul
Fight the anger you control
It's time, it's time to leave it all

What's the price
When will you realize
You're a king in ruins
Why can't you see
That there is not one thing left for me

Still the blood run through my veins
There's a place that I belong
Roots in foreign soil
Still my heart beats on
Reach inside your soul

Fight the anger you control
It's time, it's time to leave the world behind

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to I AM I's song King in Ruins are a commentary on the struggle between human connection and the forces that cause us to push others away. The opening lines, "Close together, miles apart inside, differences we cannot seem to hide," suggest that while we may be physically close to one another, there is a divide between us that is difficult to overcome. This divide is fueled by fear and anger, which often stem from pride and a sense of self-righteousness.

Despite these challenges, the song encourages listeners to "reach inside your soul, fight the anger you control" in order to transcend these negative emotions and find a sense of unity with others. The repeated refrain of "still the blood run through my veins, there's a place that I belong" underscores our shared humanity and the ways in which we are all connected to one another, regardless of our differences. Ultimately, the song advocates for leaving behind the petty conflicts and mindless violence of the past and moving towards a more compassionate and harmonious future.

I'm gonna quote Tenacious D and the pick of destiny when it come to I AM I - "I fucking love this band they are the best band ever period." In short they are awesome. Keep the music coming.

I agree, I AM I Event Horizon it's really underrated even with the great singer ZP Theart. The whole album is pure poetry, I like it. This deserves more views. People thinks that this band is (fair) power metal but is melodic heavy metal and hard rock.
