The Dark God surprises me in how... understanding he can be.
He started to be kind, realised his mistake and admitted he was wrong.
The same cannot be said of many other people I have met.
Mortality has its value just as death dictates the worth of life. Both Gods value balance, life without death is demeaned.

He also has boss moments.
Like that near genocide.
Shattering the moon.
Trashing Salem’s last demands.

He might be my favourite character in this episode (not the whole series).

Darkness, shadow, death. It’s the counterpoint to light and life, yet gives both beauty and meaning.
It’s necessary.

@ItsDaKoolaidDude
If pantheistic gods have no learning curve then explain actual examples like Zeus overthrowing Cronos before taking his place as the king of the gods? Or how Zeus, Poseidon and Hades divided their territories and roles between each other by agreement rather than designation?
As the myths go, they were not always the representative or embodiment of something. They took to those roles in their own legends.

And the reason why pantheistic beliefs were formed to begin with was to account for natural phenomena that were not understood.
The Norse hear thunder and can’t explain it, so they thought it might be a great being rolling his cart across the sky.
I find the pantheistic deities more tolerable an ideology because it accounts for both evil and fallibility.
That whole argument over if Evil exists, why does God allow it? Makes the monotheistic god either cruel or apathetic enough to subject us to or allow us to do evil, incompetent enough to fail to stop it, or incapable of seeing it coming.
Most other pantheons have some entity or evil deity that acts in accordance with evil or misfortune without touting an infallible god.

These two are clearly fallible and neither are omnipotent, yet are capable of mass destruction or creation, aspects usually related to deific figures.

Deities in any sense are a means to embody what is not understood. All of it a crutch to cope with how little we understand the nature of the universe.

Blazing Kite

Loophole
More like the key to disable the curse.
However, she didnt want to understand the balance of life and death

And after falling onto the pool of darkness
Is then, where she will never want to understand life and death, as Jinn said
" This force of pure destruction could not destroy a being of infinite life.
Instead, it ceated a being of infinite life with a desire of pure destruction "

Andrew Wool

"Ozmar, it will be up to you to guide humanity to it's rightful place."
"That shouldn't be too hard-"
"Oh yeah, BTW your girlfriend went crazy after taking a dip in my brothers grimm gruel, and she also stil has access to magic like you do."
"Uh..-"
"Also, if anyone gathers the 4 relics at anytime EVER ad we don't like what we see, you're planet goes KAPUT."
"Ummmmmm-"
"Also, even though we were talking about the balance and sanctity of life like it was some big shit, we're going to make you immortal. But not like you're girlfriend, you're going to go around body snatching like Orochimaru but not as cool, and you're not going to have a choice in who you revive in."
"......."
"Also there's a race of furries now, so good luck with that."
"......the gods are dicks."
"You've never even heard of the Greeks, piss off."

I find it interesting how divisive this episode has made everyone's perceptions of Ozpin and his actions, Salem and hers, and the reactions of RWBY in episodes 2 & 4. So much debate over whether Ozpin is justified for his sketchy methods.

And the story of the Gods' meddling is Greek mythology. To them, the problems of man are but the problems of ants. They are dealing with some Doctor Manhattan levels of separation and moral neutrality. "The world's smartest man poses no more threat to me than does its smartest termite.”
I saw someone here calling them war criminals and listing their crimes according to human laws. I find that very interesting as it brings up a thought I never had before: Can you hold Zeus, Athena, Odin, & Thor accountable for their actions? How could you even?

I'm trying to look at things from everyone's perspectives.
Ozpin's been burned before and doesn't want to take chances. I get that. But hiding things while giving orders does naturally build suspicion and distrust in others. It's a plan that rarely works (Last Jedi is the 1st example that comes to mind). He did what HE thought was appropriate, but I do stand that he made a bad call.
(VAGUE SPOILERS FOR EPISODE 4? OH, AND INFINITY WAR.)
I feel that Team RWBY's suspicions and eventual reactions to this info dump with the hope smashing "You can't" revelation are justified as well. Who doesn't hate being pulled around by someone who won't tell you what you're supposed to be doing and why? Their reactions are perfectly understandable and justified. And after the 30 minutes they just had prior, who would be expressing purely cold logic? (It's like when people shat on Star Lord in Infinity War all over again! Smart? No. Lead to the bad guy winning? Yes. Understandable and even reasonable given the character of Peter Quill? Yes!)
(YOU'RE GOOD)
Salem felt wronged by the Gods. And in many ways, she was. They did her pretty dirty. But life and death are things that should not be tampered with. And Salem's own methods and attitudes didn't help her situation either. It started as loss, then selfish desire, then hatred and spite, and eventually megalomania. She thought herself above Gods and the forces of nature. And hate rested in her heart from the moment the Gods told her "no." I can understand her actions, but I cannot justify them.
And the as for the Gods... they fucked up royally with this "experiment." But I understand their attitudes. They are in a league of their own. What can any mortal do here? Can you condemn someone for their crimes against an amoeba?

So the lyrics in Divide are actually true in this episode.

“Form your armies”
Is Salem going to kingdom after kingdom

“Dream your dreams”
Is Salem wanting Ozma back

“Make your plans and plot your schemes”
Is Salem putting lies into the head of men.

“Send your fighters, one and all”
Is everyone going to fight the gods

“Then in battle watch them fall”
Is the God of Darkness destroying humanity

Isaiah Wilson

@Undying_LonelySoul I see Salem as another example of what immortality can do to a person based on the circumstances, drives and the individual.

Let's look at Salem, as well as DC's Vandal Savage and General Immortus.

Salem wanted freedom from those who had power over her.

Vandal wanted to rule because he was stronger than others.

Immortus wanted to conquer everything before he died.

Give immortality to the latter two and they'll lose what humanizing traits they in a power drunk frenzy.

Give immortality to a woman who wants to be free of the burden of living with her losses? I'd be surprised if Salem doesn't still want to die a little on the inside.

I just want to point out that Ozma and Salem are probably inspired by the asian tale of Kuon and Rinne/Linne :
Koun is immortal and does not age while R/Linne is constantly reincarnating.
Pretty sure that you heard of R/Linne when you played BBTAG.

Edit:
I think they are setting up a situation where someone with silver eyes has to "purify" or "ungrimmify" Salem,
so she does not seek destruction anymore
and then teach her about the importance of life and death so she isnt immortal anymore.
I guess you could kill her afterwards to speed up the dying process.
Bringing humanity together is probably a long term goal that will probably not happen in team RWBYs era.

36:13 dumb question from someone who just started watching the show and just made it to V6e3.
what was so bad about V5? i always hear "aftermath of Volume5" and "V5 ruined the show".
but why is that? i could think of a few reasons, but it didnt occure to me what was so bad?
or do i dont understand it because i have the advantage to watch the following volumes right after Volume5?

King Zilla

Only cowards bow to nature natures course is the most horrific and pure evil and unnecessary and pointless and cowardly one there's is why because of death with out death life would be spectacular but no.

Life is none of the things I mentioned on it's own but with death it just seems like a cruel joke a lot of the times.

Nathaniel Mathews

I just realized their punishment for her is really fucked up considering the fact they gave her the choice to do so based on one of the fundamental aspects of man.

Ubel Orias

Is it just me or does the knight that Ozma defeats at 7:33, looks like the knight model from Marks "Linen" trailer.
