The original… Read Full Bio ↴I the Mighty has 2 songs called "The Hound And The Fox"
The original version is a punk-metal-core song released in their 2015 album "Connector." In 2016, I the Mighty released a jazz version of the song on their EP "Oil In Water." Since both songs have the same name, they'll both end up on this page.
Both versions of the song have the same lyrics, about an unstable, yet heroic man who walks into the Fox News building threatening and demanding that they oust themselves publicly for the money hungry, rating-obsessed, and fact-fudging “journalists” they are.

Draining out the chemicals, trying not to make mistakes.
Little do they know that any given day,
I'll expose all their hypocrisies...
Express my inner rage.
Oh tell me this:
If you can say it to the public, why can't you say that shit to your kids?
You're an actor
And it would blow everybody's mind
If they could see just what lies behind
The velvet curtain, the office door.
I'll give them no choice. I'll give them no choice.
I can't catch my breath! Been working to the bone.
Dottin' on all the "I's" and crossin' every "t" I own.
This ain't pullin' thread... No, baby this is war!
I'll be the cog to end their cash machine.
They'll rue the day the hound came to their door.
The real crooks ain't wearin' ski masks.
No, they're walkin' around in suits.
They feed us lies in American wrapping.
They're just acting...
And it would blow everybody's mind. (I wish it didn't have to come to this)
If they could see just what lies behind. (I wish I didn't have to make a mess)
The velvet curtain, the office door. (But I've got no choice)
I'll give them no choice.
I'll give them no choice.
And it would blow everybody's mind. (I wish it didn't have to come to this)
If they could see just what lies behind. (I wish I didn't have to make a mess)
The velvet curtain, the office door. (But I've got no choice)
I'll give them no choice.
I'm gonna blow everybody's mind
When they all see just what lies behind
The velvet curtain, the office door.
I'll give them no choice.
I've got my voice.
In this song, I the Mighty addresses the hypocrisy and corruption often present in positions of power, particularly in the business world. The singer is tired of seeing the powerful get away with shady actions and not be held accountable. They've been staying up late ("no sleep for the sick") trying to gather evidence and "draining out the chemicals" in order to stay focused and not make any mistakes. The singer is biding their time, waiting for the opportune moment to "expose all their hypocrisies" and express their "inner rage."
The powerful individuals the singer is addressing are not only dishonest, but they also seem to lack any moral compass. The line "If you can say it to the public, why can't you say that shit to your kids?" suggests that these people are not only corrupt in their professional lives but likely have questionable ethics in their personal lives as well. The singer doesn't pull any punches, accusing these individuals of being nothing more than actors, putting on a false front to cover up their deceit.
The singer is clearly fed up with being powerless against these corrupt figures and is ready for a fight, even if it means disrupting their comfortable lives ("I'll be the cog to end their cash machine"). The repeated line "I'll give them no choice" reinforces the idea that the singer is done with being passive and is now taking matters into their own hands, regardless of the consequences.

Shanice Harding this is what happens when a band knows what good change is, not just dumbing down their sound to completely alienate half their fanbase but atract new ones.
