Currently based in Beetsterzwaag, The Netherlands, Van der Ploeg recorded three full-length albums as a member of Groningen-based indie band, Audiotransparent.

The original plan was to make an ambient guitar record about rail yards. All that Audiotransparent and Kendler guitar player, Chris van der Ploeg, came up with was songs. He christened his project I Took Your Name, the name borrowed from an R.E.M. song.

His début solo EP, Bayonet EP, was released digitally in late 2012. It was followed by scattered songs via his Bandcamp site. Some of them also popped up on Spotify, others never did.

October 2017 saw the release of I Took Your Name's début full-length, White Wall, Silent Light, on King Forward Records. Summer 2021 saw the release of Dales & Mighty Rivers, described by Van der Ploeg as "an inbetweener (...) but this release offers more than scraps and demos."
