RUNAWAY TRAIN
Ian Cussick Lyrics

johnny and me we are cool operators
sliding down to the cool, cool water we go
it takes 24 hours to make 25 miles
to the borderline we know
3 hours later out of stonehaven prison
my hands are freezing
And if my heart is beating like 100 guns
behind enemy lines, who cares
I wear a ball and chain
I know it has my name
but i ain't gonna wear it no more
On this runaway train
over the hill far away
with the rain pouring down
on the midnight express
on a highway to hell
no on can pray for me now
will we ever find home
Johnny and me on a strange locomotive
there's no on driving
but we still keep feeling the need
It takes 24 hours to make 25 miles
to the borderline, we need speed
5 hours later out of stonehaven prison
the engines thunder
but there's nobody on board
And my heart's still beating like a 100 guns
as the train lifts off and leaves the ground
i wear a ball and chain
i know it has my name
but i ain't gonna wear it no more
On this runaway train
over the hill far away
with the rain pouring down
on the midnight express
on a highway to hell
no on can pray for me now
On this runaway train
over the hill far away
turning black is the sky
on the nowhere express
we're halfway to the hell
we'll have to run 'till we die
Home is the place
where the sun always shines
on you everyday
it's so far away from hell
it's a place you can tell
that we're here by your side
Ian Cussick's song "Runaway Train" tells the story of two people, Johnny and the singer, who are on a journey towards a borderline. The song starts with the singer describing himself and Johnny as "cool operators," sliding down towards a cool water body. They are aware that it will take them 24 hours to cover a distance of 25 miles to reach the borderline. As they continue on their journey, they run into trouble as they reach Stonehaven prison. It is here that the singer realizes that he is wearing a ball and chain with his name on it. They make a quick escape as they continue their journey on a runaway train, which is going over the hill and far away. As the train speeds away, they find themselves on the nowhere express on a highway to hell.
The song mentions the train lifting off the ground as an indication that their situation has become utterly hopeless. The lyrics "And my heart's still beating like a hundred guns" suggests that the singer is in a state of panic, realizing that he has no control over what's happening to them. He echoes his resolve not to wear that ball and chain anymore, shedding his past troubles and striving for a better future with a sense of hope that they will find their way home.

johnny and me we are cool operators
Johnny and I are smooth operators
sliding down to the cool, cool water we go
We are going to a place where we can relax and cool down
it takes 24 hours to make 25 miles
Our progress is slow and gradual
to the borderline we know
We are close to reaching our destination
3 hours later out of stonehaven prison
We have escaped from Stonehaven prison three hours ago
my hands are freezing
It's very cold outside
and my breath is freezing the air
It's so cold that I can see my breath
And if my heart is beating like 100 guns
My heart is racing with fear and adrenaline
behind enemy lines, who cares
I am in a dangerous situation, but I don't care
I wear a ball and chain
I am burdened by a heavy weight
I know it has my name
I know that this burden is mine to bear
but i ain't gonna wear it no more
I am determined to break free from this burden
On this runaway train
I am on a train that is out of control
over the hill far away
We are headed far away from where we started
with the rain pouring down
It's raining heavily
on the midnight express
We are on a train that is traveling at night
on a highway to hell
We are on a path of destruction and danger
no on can pray for me now
I am in too deep for anyone to help me now
will we ever find home
I am uncertain if I will ever find my way back to safety
Johnny and me on a strange locomotive
Johnny and I are on an unfamiliar and mysterious train
there's no on driving
There is no one in control of this train
but we still keep feeling the need
We are still driven by our instincts and desires
5 hours later out of stonehaven prison
We have been on the run for five hours since escaping from Stonehaven prison
the engines thunder
The engines of the train are making a loud noise
but there's nobody on board
There is no one else on this train with us
and my heart's still beating like a 100 guns
My heart is still racing with fear and adrenaline
as the train lifts off and leaves the ground
The train is leaving the tracks and taking off
turning black is the sky
The sky is getting darker and more ominous
on the nowhere express
We are on a train going to nowhere
we're halfway to the hell
We are well on our way to a life of destruction and chaos
we'll have to run 'till we die
We are committed to this path, even if it means our demise
Home is the place
A place of safety, security, and happiness
where the sun always shines
Where life is full of positivity and light
on you everyday
This place is where you feel at home and comfortable every day
it's so far away from hell
This place is the complete opposite of the harsh and desolate environment we're in
it's a place you can tell
You can feel that this place is special and different from the rest
that we're here by your side
We are there for you, no matter what happens
