One Fine Day
Ian Hunter;Queen Lyrics

But now I think you hear me well for now we both know how
No star can light our way in this cloud of dark and fear
But some day, one day...
Funny how the pages turn and hold us in between
A misty castle awaits for you
And you shall be a Queen (you shall be a Queen)
But some day, one day...
When I was you and you were me and we were very young
Together took us nearly there, the rest may not be sung
So still the cloud it hangs over us and we're alone
But some day one day...
We'll come home
The song "One Fine Day" by Queen is a reflection on the struggle to find hope and light in the midst of darkness and fear. The opening lines suggest that the main character is trying to communicate through music but has been unsuccessful because the music was too loud. However, the character believes that now they are being heard, and there is a mutual understanding between them.
The lyrics explore the idea that sometimes life can be difficult and uncertain, but hope still exists. The line "no star can light our way in this cloud of dark and fear" paints a picture of a world without guidance, but the phrase "some day, one day" implies that there is still hope for the future. This hope is further emphasized in the lines "Funny how the pages turn and hold us in between, a misty castle awaits for you and you shall be a Queen."
The final verse speaks to the nostalgia the character feels for simpler times. The line "when I was you and you were me and we were very young, together took us nearly there, the rest may not be sung" suggests a sense of longing for the past, when things were easier. The song ends on a hopeful note, with the repetition of "some day one day" suggesting that there will be a return to a better time in the future, where they will come home.

What a great fucking song. Ian continues to show he's one of the top writers and performers in the music business. When I first saw Mott the Hoople in 1969 they opened for Ten Years After. By the time their set was over I had to pick my jaw up from the ground. I ran out the next day and bought their first LP from Jerry's Records in Philly. I've never seen Hunter do a bad show and I've seen him more times than I can remember. Long live Ian Hunter.
