Dandelion
Ian Moore Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Wind
Pick up this dandelion flower
Blow it far away from here
Where the world has never seen
The beauty that it knows
It lies softly where it goes
The meadow
Sun
Turn this grass from green to brown
The August sun so cruel
It sets fire to the rule
And not falling
What you waiting for?
It's time for you to ride

Close my eyes and keep me safe from all I know
'Til the life is dried and gone
And the ghosts have all moved on

Brother, brother, keep me safe from all I know
'Til the dandelion goes
The dandelion goes

(solo)

Blow your wishes for the one thing I can give
The sacrifice you live
The blood, the blood that must be spilled

Illuminate, and that can show me what's inside
The places that you find
The secrets that you hide

Brother fly, let it die for what it knows
The ruthless truth it shows
The puck, the puck that it unfolds

Brother, brother, keep me safe from all I know

'Til the dandelion goes
The dandelion goes

Overall Meaning

The song "Dandelion" by Ian Moore is a poignant ballad about letting go of the things that are holding us back and allowing ourselves to take flight. The opening lines, "Wind, pick up this dandelion flower, blow it far away from here, Where the world has never seen, the beauty that it knows" seem to suggest a desire to escape from a place of confinement or limitation and to explore the wide open spaces of the world. The dandelion, often viewed as a pesky weed, is here seen as a symbol of beauty and resilience that can flourish in even the most unlikely of places. The meadow where it lies "softly" suggests a place of peace and quiet reflection, where one can shed the burdens of the past and embrace a new beginning.

The subsequent stanzas shift the focus to the harsher realities of life - the "August sun so cruel" that sets fire to the grass, the need to take risks and push beyond our comfort zones. The repeated refrain of "Brother, brother, keep me safe from all I know" suggests a desire for guidance and protection from the unknown, but also a growing sense of confidence and independence. The final verse, with its talk of blood sacrifice, illumination, and hidden secrets, suggests a willingness to confront the unknown head-on and to embrace whatever comes next.

Overall, "Dandelion" is a powerful song about embracing change and taking risks, even when the outcomes are uncertain. It speaks to a universal human desire for freedom and self-discovery, and offers a message of hope and resilience in the face of life's challenges.

Great music, great album, great songs ....This Album should have been Platinum based on pure soul and performance. The song writing not only has interesting Chord progressions, original sounding arrangements, and licks but lyrically they are some of the best I have ever heard. Of all the big "entertainment" businesses the music business is the most corrupt. Great artists never get the Corporate support unless they are sell outs...
