Now You're Gone
Ian Moore Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well I can see from the displeasure running through you
That your heart has lost its faith, you're not to blame.
Well a lady lays in waiting
'Til the waiting's gone too long.
Her love is gone; she must find faith anew.

Yeah I'm so lost I never saw it happen.
Or maybe I was watching all the while.
But either way, I'll know this pain
When it whispers in my ear.
It's only you I've ever loved and now you're gone.

Well I know that soon this melody will fade away,
And that's just when the darkness comes on in.
Well, I've been there for a while,
I burned my eyes, and they don't bother me.
It's only you I've ever loved, and now you're gone.

(solo)

Well I know that soon this melody will fade away,
And that's just when the darkness comes on in.
Well, I've been there for a while,
I burned my eyes, and they don't bother me.
It's only you I've ever loved, and now you're gone.
It's only you I've ever loved, and now you're gone.

It's only you I've ever loved, and now you're gone.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Ian Moore's song "Now You're Gone" tell the story of a person who has lost their faith in love due to a lost relationship. The first verse suggests that the person's partner may have lost faith as well, stating "I can see from the displeasure running through you/That your heart has lost its faith." The second verse implies that the singer was not expecting the end of the relationship, but now understands the pain that their partner felt. The chorus repeats the phrase "It's only you I've ever loved, and now you're gone" to emphasize the intense feelings of loss and heartbreak.

The lyrics convey a sense of sadness and resignation, with the repeated chorus serving as a reminder of what has been lost. The image of a "lady lay[ing] in waiting" adds to the theme of waiting and hoping for love, while also acknowledging the reality that sometimes waiting can lead to disappointment. The line "I burned my eyes, and they don't bother me" suggests that the singer has experienced so much pain that they are no longer affected by it.

Overall, "Now You're Gone" is a poignant and introspective song about the pain of lost love and the struggle to find faith again.

@stevenapoleon This video is from a show in 2003 just before the build up to Iraq War. I was at this show on my college campus and remember the protests. As for the taliban, they are in power only because the US armed and funded them during the Soviet Invasion. The war in Afghanistan isn't to defeat the taliban. If it was the war would be conducted in a much different way.
