Me Voy
Ibeyi Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Y me voy
Y me voy, y me voy y te vas, y te vas
Y me voy
Y me voy, y me voy y te vas, y te vas
Hacia el mar en silencio

Recuérdalo
Recuérdalo
Recuérdalo
Recuérdalo

Y ya no tengo frio
Y ya no tengo miedo
Aunque no tenga nada
A mí mece el cielo
Y ya no quiero mucho
Y ya no quiero menos
Aunque no pueda, tampoco quiero luego
Siento que tengo poco tiempo
Yo no quiero perder
Tú me hacías falta, oye
Aunque yo me pierda, húndete

Y me voy
Y me voy, y me voy y te vas, y te vas
Y me voy
Y me voy, y me voy y te vas, y te vas
Hacia el mar en silencio

Overall Meaning

The song "Me Voy" by Ibeyi is a heartfelt expression of a lover's journey towards self-discovery and letting go. The lyrics describe the overwhelming force of the waves and rain, which the touch of the lover can momentarily halt, bringing a sweet dream-like feeling to the singer's mouth and clothing. However, the memory of the lover's departure lingers and the singer feels compelled to follow suit, desiring to move towards the light of a star over the sea - a symbol of hope and freedom. The passage of time is acknowledged, but the memory of the love remains. The longing for something beyond herself, to be huddled by the sky, becomes the obsessions of the singer.

As the song progresses, the themes of fear, powerlessness, and recognition of what is essential become apparent. She reflects on the truth that everyone who lives must inevitably face change and accepts that nothing can be preserved, - not even fear or coldness - as she observes that she is carried by the heavens despite her lack. The lyrics call to mind the illusion of time and the desperation of the human heart to hold onto something that is fleeting. The singer grapples with the things that she desires and the things that she wants to leave behind in a quest to understand herself more fully. Ultimately, she realizes that the only way to grow is to surrender and move forward despite the risk of getting lost in the vast uncertainty of life.

These girls are COMMUNISTS. In Cuba we are taught to hate the “Yankees”, hate the USA & hate Capitalism. Their father was a musician during the USSR era of Cuba & was always traveling out of Cuba when it was ILLEGAL for average Cubans to do so. They praise Che & Fidel openly & preach Communism during their interviews WHILE earning Capitalist foreign dollars. Those dictators (Fidel murdered Che over power, every Cubans knows that) are the reason Cuba is a rotting, disgusting, vile, shameful & oppressive country.

HESE ARE THE PEOPLE THESE WOMEN LOOK UP TO!

They should be be ashamed & exiled (like millions of Cubans have been since 1959) because of their Anti-American agenda. Don’t support these ladies, you Yankees! They HATE you & always will just like their "role models" have taught them to.

Awesome. Using autotune does not deflect from the talent of these ladies. This is a play with sound and creativity. Artists deserve the room to breathe and do that. I also see it as a cultural ode to the frequency running through popular African and Latino music. Have fun and shake it a little.

@user-hf1tb7qu6i

Go listen to the live you'll see it never an autoruned voice ❤

@kadununes86

when we do bad judgments of an artist we love for making things different from what we expect, it's a sign we don't give them the respect and freedom they deserve. live long and prosper, Ibeyi <3

@NothingsR33L

Kadu Nunes well said.

@bebooo0

i love the autotune. and it's very much ibeyi. the purpose wasn't to hide imperfections in their natural voices, it was to add an almost robotic quality to their singing, and if you can't see that you're dense.

@Armine771

I've seen them live in a concert hall and I can confirm, telling you that their voices are stunning.

@bw3839
