Snoofler
Idiot Flesh Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hours spent in solemn contemplation
Are pitifully plentiful today
Avoid depression, with it pain
Increase potential for the same

It's easy, I know, just to let it all go
To the back of your mind where it probably won't climb on your heart
Setting their sights upon drug abuse, murder, and jobs
Hoping to quiet the cries of the unemployed mobs
Who are proud that they'd rather be dead than well-read

Taking the stage once again with his confident smile
A man that I'd like to compare with a pile of shit
That's so dumb he can't even remember his name

I know lots of things we can do with you

First you say you're a contra
And I know you're a snob
Thought that you'd take the country
But I can see you have not much grey substance

I know lots of things we can do with you

First you say you're a snoofler
Then you say you're a glob

Well, I've seen my share of snooflers
And I can tell you're a globular substance

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Idiot Flesh's song "Snoofler" contain multiple abstract and satirical elements that are open to interpretation. The first few lines present a paradoxical view of depression, where consciously avoiding it could potentially increase the likelihood of experiencing it. The song also critiques the societal values of valuing drug abuse, murder, and menial jobs while ignoring the pains and cries of the unemployed. The next few lines paint a satirical image of a confident man who the singer equates to a pile of excrement, suggesting that his apparent charisma is false and hollow. The final lines of the song mock the persona of the individual being discussed, calling them a "contra," a "snob," a "globe," and a "snoofler."

Overall, the song seems to criticize societal values that promote destructive behavior and hinder true human flourishing. The lyrics employ a mix of absurdist and satirical elements to create a jarring and somewhat nonsensical effect. However, upon closer analysis, the lyrics seem to express a coherent point of view that critiques society's emphasis on superficiality and the rejection of genuine human connection.

Thank you so much for taking the time!

@ericbravo2064

I've been a fan since 1987 when I lived right across the hall from Gene and Nils at Barrington Hall a year or so after this album first came out. Still a fan. Thank you for posting. Cheers.

I broadcast Pizza Juice over the airwaves a couple decades ago. Told Eugene, he was horrified. I remain unapologetic. 🙂

@m.scottmcgahan9900

What other projects did Eugene do after Idiot Flesh? I tried searching years ago but only came up with a guerilla theater happening where he was one of about 50 people.

@SOMBizarre_archive

@@m.scottmcgahan9900 he sadly isn't doing much these days. I dont know him personally however. He did a black sabbath cover for Undercover and then did bargooma with dave. That's about as much as you'll find.
