All Day
Idle Eyes Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And take my mind on a holiday cruise
You could come if you wanted to
You could always come if you really wanted to
You know that sometimes I try to run away
But I can't run faster than my shadow
It's fun living day to day
All day
I look out the window
All day
I listen to the stereo
No way
She's gonna let it go
Today
I watch the wind blow
I never talk behind your back
Why do you talk behind mine?
I know it's hard living all alone
Everybody needs a little sunshine
All day
I look out the window
All day
I listen to the stereo
No way
She's gonna let it go
Today
I watch the wind blow
Where the wind blows
There my mind goes
Where my mind goes
The lyrics of the song All Day by Idle Eyes convey a theme of escapism and the desire to forget about someone. The singer yearns for a mental holiday cruise where they could forget about the one they love, but at the same time, they allow them to come along, signifying their reluctance to let go. The song also highlights the futility of trying to escape from one's problems as the singer admits to trying to run away but is unable to outrun their shadow.
The chorus of the song, "All day, I look out the window. All day, I listen to the stereo. No way she's gonna let it go. Today, I watch the wind blow," depicts a sense of monotony and ennui in the singer's life. They are stuck in a routine and are just passing time. Despite their attempts to escape, they are still unable to rid themselves of their feelings entirely. The lyrics also touch on the theme of loneliness, with the singer acknowledging that they know it's difficult to be alone, and everyone needs a little sunshine in their life.

Me too I was waiting years for this song! I remember listening to this song on 980 AM CKGM, in Montreal. Never heard it anywhere else. Then, about 15 years later I found the album on vinyl a Discount shop for 99 cents !! "Tokyo roses" and "Two rivers" are also on the same album. What a great album that was :)

I've loved this song since I was a teen in the 80's. Had no idea the music video was filmed at the PNE in Vancouver, BC though. I live in Surrey, a city not far from Vancouver.
