If
If? Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

If the pilot's going to daydream in the sky
Pour me a gin and tonic four inches high
We can drive all night In the soggy heat
We can stomp our feet to this funky beat
Singing Hey, Hey
Heeeeeeeeey

Sure I can go
Where ever you need me to go
One foot in front of the other baby
How is it gonna know
That its ohkelpahskepah yeah yeah

I'm gonna sit my ass right here
I'm gonna drink myself a few more beers
I'm gonna strum these notes on this guitar
'Til my hands come up bloody and scarred

No it ain't gonna be pretty to look at
No it ain't gonna be pretty to look at at all

If the pilot's going to daydream in the ssk...

If the driver's going to run all the red lights
Hold onto what you can if you wanna save your life
We can ride all night in the city streets
We can hide our fears in philosophies
Singing Hey, Step out of the cave

If the pilot's going to daydream in the sky
Pour me a gin and tonic four inches high
We can drive all night In the soggy heat
We can stomp our feet to this funky beat

Singing Hey, Hey
Hey Yeah

Overall Meaning

The song 'If?' by If? embodies a carefree attitude towards life where the lead singer expresses his willingness to go anywhere with his partner, one foot in front of the other, without any particular destination in mind. He is ready to sit back, enjoy a few beers and play guitar until his hands are bloody and scarred. The lyrics mock the idea of life being perfect as the singer declares “No it ain't gonna be pretty to look at, no it ain't gonna be pretty to look at at all.” The chorus of the song asserts a sense of freedom and rebellion as the band sings "Hey, hey, heeeey" in a funky tone. The lyrics also suggest a desire to take risks and live on the edge, as the singer encourages listeners to hold on tight and hide their fears in philosophies while we ride all night in the city.

Overall, the song 'If?' celebrates a carefree spirit and urges listeners to embrace uncertainty and live every moment fully without worry.

@shicox again, science says otherwise. Meg faced fierce competition from raptorial whales at the time and a lot of them were roughly the same or even smaller than the Orca in terms of mass. Heck, even other sharks joined in on the fun, including the Great White.

It outlasted several species but ultimately succumbed to being overwhelmed by the smaller, more efficient species it faced off with because of the changing temperature that impacted its diet.

It was too big for its own good, which is why Great White Sharks still exist today while Meg went bye bye.

The competition from raptorial whales and other sharks was the final blow to its long reign as it was already struggling to survive once the big whales started to migrate towards colder waters.

Heck, there's even evidence of Great Whites preying on baby Megalodons too, I believe.

@shicox science says otherwise. Megalodon had trouble with raptorial whales and was one of the contributing factors to its extinction.

A full grown Orca is already half the size of a Megalodon, imagine if a Megalodon met a pod with 5 full grown Orcas.

I think the Megalodon would be smart enough to avoid them as much as possible since a single bite would cause a lot of trouble for it even if it doesn't get killed.

Doesn't help that Dolphins like to fight dirty, going for the sensitive organs, gills, tails and fins as well as harassing competitors using their high pitched noises.

Just by looking how Great Whites, who are normally bigger and stronger than Bottlenose Dolphins individually, yet they still choose not to engage with a pod of Dolphins and try to avoid them as much as possible since they are aware how much damage a single pod can do.

So based on that, it's quite possible Megalodons might do the same with Orcas, the risk is just too damn high. That's why you don't regularly see Grizzly Bears trying to outwit a pack of Grey Wolves. It's a waste of energy and they might get injured and even killed.

Also, Great Whites ironically contributed to Megalodon's extinction too, fun fact.

We're acting like we're not gonna drive these things to extinction if it existed today.

If not us, then Orcas would have a great time dining on their young and probably even a full grown one if the pod is big enough, lol
